Makam (tomb of) Dol Said...

Rasanya ramai anak Malaysia pernah mendengar nama Dol Said, seorang pejuang Melayu yang melawan pemerintahan penjajah Inggeris. Sekarang, mari kita melawat makam beliau. Mari! :]

Me feels many Malaysian citizens have heard the name Dol Said, a Malay fighter who fought again the rule of the colonialist English (or British?). Now, let us pay a visit to his tomb. Come! :]

Around 1km from the PLUS highway tol building in Alor Gajah, Melaka, on the main road heading to Negeri Sembilan, one could see this mosque with the signboard just besides the road...

From the sides of the mosque, one could see a yellow tomb building which stands out...

I had to climb down using the ladder seen here to get to the area around the tomb!

As it is the mosque lies on a hill slope, besides it is a medium sized cemetery area... There's also a few other tombs which stand out, but I don't know to whom it belongs to.

Inilah makam Dol Said...

This is the tomb of Dol Said...

Siapa itu Dol Said?

Who is Dol Said? He is the 9th chief of the province of Naning, installed in the year 1802. The English in Melaka demanded that Naning should a pay a measure of tax but Dol Said refused. And so Naning was attacked by the English but Dol Said and his people managed to repulse the invaders!

Naning diserang lagi Mei 1832.

Naning was attacked again in May 1832. The number of those killed from both sides made Dol Said surrender in 1834... This is because many of those killed were Malays too. Because the English managed to garner the support of some Malays from a different group to go along attacking Naning!

Dol Said diberi pencen oleh Inggeris. Beliau meninggal dunia 1849.

Dol Said was given pension by the English. He died in the year 1849.

From the tomb of Dol Said, I looked again at the mosque. Then only I saw an easier route to get to the tomb from the mosque that is on the left inside this picture!

A picture of the tomb of Dol Said along with the mosque...

Bila saya naik kembali ke masjid, baru saya tahu inilah dia Masjid Taboh Naning. Timbul rasa satu hari nanti saya mesti bermalam di sini. Sekian! :]

When I came back up to the mosque, then only I realised this is the mosque of Taboh Naning. Came the feeling that one day I must spend the night here. That's all! :]

Makam (tomb of) Sultan Hussin Shah di (in) Melaka...

Disambung dari artikel Masjid (Mosque of) Tengkera, Melaka.

Continuing from the article Masjid (Mosque of) Tengkera, Melaka.

Di luar perkarangan Masjid Tengkera, terletak satu tanah perkuburan Islam.

Just outside the courtyard of the mosque of Tengkera, there lies a Muslim cemetery.

At one corner of the cemetery there lies a certain tomb!

Sila!

This tomb is gazetted as a place of much historical value. It is owned by Sultan Hussin Shah, a Sultan of the Johor-Riau-Lingga in the 19th Century. For more information, please click and open the picture above in another window ya... Go on!

Sekarang mari kita ke makam.

Now let's go to the tomb.

Adapun pada zaman pemerintahan Sultan inilah berlakunya Perjanjian Inggeris-Belanda 1824 yang menyaksikan bumi Melayu khususnya empayar Johor-Riau-Lingga yang dikatakan mewarisi kekuasaan empayar Melaka terpecah dua... Jadi satu bahagian yang dikuasa penjajah Inggeris, satu lagi bahagian yang dikuasai Belanda.

As it is, it was during the rule of this Sultan that the English-Dutch Treaty of 1824 was signed resulting in the Malay world especially the Johor-Riau-Lingga empire which is said to be the continuation of the powers and influence of the Melaka empire broken into two... Becoming one part controlled by the colonialist English, another part with the Dutch holding sway.

Singapura (please, I dispise using the Anglicised word Singapore much like I dispise using the word Malacca for Melaka) which used to be the centre of administration during the rule of Sultan Hussin was thus practically pawned to the English (or British) and became their main fort. The result, Singapura continued to become the main base for foreign forces to threaten the sovereignity of the Malay people till this very day!

Singapura pula dikuasai bangsa bukan Melayu. Baca balik artikel ini Makam (tomb of) Baginda Ali. Sekian! :]

Sultan Hussin was forced to leave Singapura and thus resided in Melaka where he died at. Modern history has witnessed the part of the Malay lands under English influenced then emerged as the nation of Malaysia, the parts under Dutch influence became the Republic of Indonesia. Singapura in turn is controlled by non-Malays. Oh, for information, Sultan Hussin is the father to Sultan Baginda Ali. Read back this article Makam (tomb of) Baginda Ali. That's all! :]

Masjid (Mosque of) Tengkera, Melaka

Mari! :]
During the recent weekend, I went for a short trip to Melaka. Stopped by at this mosqe to take some pictures. Come! :]

This is the mosque of Tengkera, some 3km north of the Melaka city centre...

It is one of the mosque with the most beautiful architecture in Melaka, perhaps in the whole of Malaysia!

Menaranya mungkin kelihatan lama tapi biasa sahaja.

Its tower might look old but common.

Just try going into the verandah and inside, you just might find yourself mesmerised with the architecture!

Lihat pintu-pintunya yang terukir cantik...
Look at the doors with its ornate beautiful carvings...

Dalam dewan utama...

Inside the main hall...

Kolam mengambil air wudhuk.

The pool for taking abolution. Maybe I came at an unfortunate time, while the pool is dry. Maybe because it is undergoing some restoration works...

Apapun, tidak dapat dinafikan seninya di dalam. Lihat sahaja mimbar ini!

Whatever, you couldn't deny the art inside. Just look at this pulpit!

Sekian! :]
