Makam 2 Muazzam (Tombs of the 2 Muazzams)

Mari!
This time we will go and visit the tombs of 2 Sultans of Perak which I have never visited before. Come!

These tombs are situated at the sides outside a school in Kampung Pulau Juar a few kilometres south of Kampung Gajah...

Harus memasuki sebuah kebun pisang...

Have to enter a banana orchard...

Beginilah letaknya makam-makam itu...

This is how the tombs are located...

One tomb higher than the other one...

The one tied with yellow-clothes is his tomb... The one on its side could be a close member of his family.

Makam yang tinggi pula milik seorang anak saudara baginda, Sultan Jaafar Muazzam Shah, Sultan Perak ke 23 (memerintah 1857-1865).

The higher tomb is that of his nephew, Sultan Jaafar Muazzam Shah, the 23rd Sultan of Perak(ruled 1857-1865).

Inilah makamnya...

This is the tomb...

Betul-betul di sebelah kirinya terletak sebuah makam dengan batu nesan Aceh, mungkin milik isteri baginda...

Right on the left side is a tomb using Aceh gravestones, probably that of his wife...

Satu pandangan makam-makam ini daripada atas. Sekian! :]

A look at the tombs from on top. That's all! :]

Masjid jamek (the main mosque) of Lumut

After a day hanging around the area of Segari, we go to Lumut next...

Di sini terdapat salah satu masjid kegemaran saya, Masjid Al Adli Lumut...

Here is one of my favourite mosque, the Al Adli mosque of Lumut...

It is the only mosque found in the town of Lumut...

Look at its beautiful design especially the tounge-like wood carvings hanging out from the corners of the roof...

On its side is a religious school flanked by a pair of hills.

I like this mosque so much that you could say everytime I visited Lumut I would at least spend a night here...

Kedudukannya di pinggir bandar memudahkan saya berjalan bila-bila masa sahaja...

Its location just outside town made it easy for me to walk around anytime...

This mosque is also quite comfortable... Usually I would sleep at the verandah just behind this pool for abolution...

Sometimes I like to sleep at the outside verandah facing the hills...

Dalamnya sudah tentu lebih selesa tetapi seperti kebanyakan masjid sekarang, pintu-pintunya dikunci selepas tamat solat Isyaq.

The inside is obviously more comfortable but just like at most mosques nowadays, the doors are locked after the Isyaq (late evening) prayers.

Setelah pintu-pintu masuknya dibuka bermula masuk waktu Subuh... Sekian...

But sometimes I would sleep inside especially when I'm so tired... That is after the doors are opened starting with the advent of Subuh (time for the early morning prayers)... That's all...

Baitul Hilal, tempat melihat anak bulan di (the new moon viewing post in) Perak

Meet the Ninja Turtles in Perak! , The origin of the name Beruas. dan A walk around Pasir Panjang... di blogspot BERPETUALANG KE ACEH , sekarang sampailah masanya untuk menunaikan kata-kata itu... Sila! :]
Just now in the posting Masjid (mosque of) Segari, Perak... made earlier tonight, I had said God willing I will feature another rather interesting place here soon. After completing the serving of 3 stories entitled Ah... Meet the Ninja Turtles in Perak! , The origin of the name Beruas. and A walk around Pasir Panjang... in the blogspot BERPETUALANG KE ACEH , now comes the time to honour those words. Come! :]

This place is situated in an area known as Pasir Panjang some 8-9 km away from the mosque of Segari shown earlier...

Untuk makluman, ia dipanggil Baitul Hilal iaitu bahasa Arab untuk tempat melihat bulan...

For information, it is called the Baitul Hilal which is Arabic for a place to observe the new moon...

The posting this time is quite simple but with plenty of meaning... This is because of this place's function as the place to observe the new moon and coincidently it is located in Pasir Panjang...

Think about the big political changes happening after the 12th Malaysian general election got its final results the recent Sunday morning... For the first time ever, 5 states (6 if the federal territory of Kuala Lumpur is included) have changed hands and the the combined parties who have all this while ruled the country without any meaningful opposition have lost their 2/3 majority in parlimen.

Sekian... :]

And so Perak receives a new Chief Minister and he is the State Assemblyman of Pasir Panjang, the area where this Baitul Hilal, the place for viewing the new moon is located at. As it is, he is a member of a party which uses the moon as its symbol... Are all of these just coincidences or is there some hidden meaning behind it? Oh... For information, this is the 111th posting in this blogspot. That's all... :]

Masjid (mosque of) Segari, Perak...

OK...
OK... From Pantai Remis, we now go 15km to the south that is at a place called Segari...

Here there is a cute mosque with rather unique architecture, its name is the Khairul Jariah mosque.

Hmm... :]

Hmm... This green dome almost reminded me of the green dome at the Nabawi mosque in Madinah, Saudi Arabia where the tomb of prophet Muhammad SAW is inside... It's just that the dome in Madinah is deep green... Maybe this light-green dome in Segari has a thin light relation to it? :]

This pictures were taken in one peaceful morning Tuesday 29th Jan 2008...

What happened was, I spent the night here after walking rather far...

The afternoon before that is Monday noon, I have reached Pengkalan Baru, after travelling for almost a day using several means including riding a bus and hitchiking a lorry from Sungai Siput to Ipoh followed by Parit, Beruas and Batu Hampar...

Seterusnya saya berjalan kaki. The old mosque of) Pantai Remis... semalam...

Next I just walked. And had the time to stop by the Pengkalan Baru mosque and Pantai Remis old mosque. That's what has been turned into the Masjid (mosque of) Pengkalan Baru... and Masjid lama (The old mosque of) Pantai Remis... pictorial stories last night...

I walked and continued walking heading for the small town of Segari... If I left Pengkalan Baru after 6pm, then I walked pass Kampung Aceh at the foot of the Segari hills after Maghrib (the time for dusk prayers) has arrived... I feel at the time I could have walked more than 7km.

I only stopped at almost 9pm to have a drink at a patrol station. There, a young man who have just completed refilling his car's fuel tank stopped by and asked where I want to go...

To cut a long story short, I was dropped at this mosque in Segari... Above is a picture of the section where I spent the night... Actually it is the women's praying section but it was not used then.

Sekian! :]

Now came the time to make a move. God willing not long after this, I will show another place that is also rather interesting. That's all! :]

Masjid lama (The old mosque of) Pantai Remis...

This is my favourite mosque in Pantai Remis, Perak...

Namanya Masjid Al-Aliah...

Its name is Al-Aliah mosque...

I've been here several times but it is only more than a month ago that I feel like taking pictures inside...

Too bad, my cheap digital camera couldn't catch good pictures when the lights are low. I love olden type mosque pulpits like the one seen here, especially when there's tounge-like wood-carvings jutting out from every corner...

Kolah mengambil wudhuk...

The pool for abolution...

Outside is a simple type of wood-carving quite common at old Malay traditional houses...

But as usual, my favourite is always the tounge-like carvings jutting out from the corners...

Sekian! :]

This is a picture of the Al-Aliah mosque taken 2 years ago. When going there a few times in the year 2007 also it looked like this, it's only in the latest visit made over a month ago that there appear some changes which lowers a bit the mosque's artistic value. That's all! :]

Masjid (mosque of) Pengkalan Baru...

Beralih pula kita ke Pengkalan Baru berdekatan bandar Pantai Remis, Perak...
Me move on to Pengkalan Baru near the town of Pantai Remis, Perak...

Di sini terdapat sebuah masjid di mana saya suka berhenti berehat...

Hear is a mosque where I like to stop for rest...

Architecture-wise, it might not be any much different from any main mosque in Malaysia...

Its architecture could be said as one of several designs often used for mosques in recent times...

But there's something that feels old about this mosque... This old pulpit left at the mosque's verandah looks like it has a story to tell...

The net hanged at the sides gave a sort of atmosphere like that at fishermen villages...

Sampai masa untuk bersolat...

Came the time for prayers...

Kemudian berehat sebentar...

Then rest a bit...

There's plenty of room for resting. If I'm not mistaken, this mosque is one of the favourite places for the Tabligh (an Islamic missionary group) people to spend the night in prayers!

Di belakang masjid, di seberang jalan utama terdapat sebuah kawasan perkuburan awam Islam...

Behind the mosque, across the main road there's a public Muslim cemetery...

Sekian! :]

On the left of the mosque is this monument saying "Replika Kota Kulit Kerang" (replica of the fort made from sea-shells"... As it is said by locals, once upon a time in this area there exist an ancient fort (perhaps an ancient city) with walls made from sea-shells. Maybe that's why the mosque has its own uniqe aura? That's all! :]

Sebuah masjid unik di Lenggong (A unique mosque in Lenggong)

Sila! :]
Here is a mosque with rather unique design, a mosque found on the way from Kuala Kangsar to Lenggong. Come! :]

This mosque is situated in Kampung (village of) Banggol Belimbing, a few kilometres south of the small town of Lenggong. Besides its unique architecture, its name which is Masjid (mosque of) Ubudiyah, same as that of the royal mosque in Bukit Chandan also attracted my attention.

A friend who hails from a nearby village showed me this mosque. "Have a good look... Is the design one that originated from Aceh?" he asked.

Saya pun tidak tahu jawabannya. Kawan saya pula bertanya begitu kerana dia tahu saya sangat berminat tentang apa-apa yang berkaitan dengan Aceh, tanah asal nenek-moyang saya dahulukala.
I myself don't know the answer. My friend asked me such because he knows I am very interested in anything to do with Aceh, the land of my forefathers of old.

The writings in this mosque said it was built during the reign of Sultan Alang Iskandar, Perak's 30th Sultan (ruled 1918-1938).

Sila lihat Masjid Brunei di (Brunei Mosque at ) Danau Tok Uban!
The pulpit inside reminded me of the Brunei Darussalam mosque in Danau Tok Uban, Kelantan. Although it doesn't look the same, that's the feeling I got. Do have a look at Masjid Brunei di (Brunei Mosque at ) Danau Tok Uban!
Kalau tak salah ingatan, namanya Lorong Tok Aceh. Yang pasti memang ada perkataan Aceh. Sekian! :]
While leaving the mosque, my friend and I were still asking where does the design of the mosque could have originated from. Immediately we saw the name of a small road in front of the mosque. If memory serves me right, the name is Lorong Tok Aceh. What is sure there is the word Aceh. That's all! :]
