Di satu kawasan pendalaman di Perlak, Aceh terdapat sebuah makam yang sangat lama...
In one rural area in Perlak, Aceh there exist a very old tomb...

Di sinilah terdapat makam Sultan pertama Perlak, Sultan Sayyid Maulana Abdul Aziz Shah, pemerintah pertama kerajaan Islam Perlak yang pernah bertapak 1,200 tahun lalu!

For here exist the tomb of the first Sultan of Perlak, Sultan Sayyid Maulana Abdul Aziz Shah, the first ruler of the Islamic kingdom of Perlak which has taken roots 1,200 years ago!

Melihat pada koleksi gambar yang diambil di Aceh pertengahan Jun ini baru saya tersedar saya tidak mengambil banyak gambar makam kecuali pemandangan sekitarnya. Looking at the collection of pictures taken in Aceh in the middle of this June only did I realised that I didn't take much pictures of the tomb except that of the surroundings. Di tepi sebuah masjid lain di Langsa, masjid yang lebih kecil terdapat sebuah kawasan pemakaman yang terserlah...

Besides another mosque in Langsa, a smaller mosque there exist a burial area which stands out...

Saya difahamkan ia milik ahli keluarga pemerintah tradisional Langsa...

I am made to understand it belongs to the family of the traditional rulers of Langsa...

Aceh dahulukala memakai sistem pemerintahan di mana daerah-daerah di dalamnya diperintah oleh ketua-ketua bertaraf raja tempatan.
Aceh in the old times used a system of administration where the districts inside in were ruled by leaders which ranked as local kings.

Mereka dan ahli keluarga mereka memakai gelaran Teuku di hadapan nama. Fungsinya hampir serupa dengan gelaran Tengku di Malaysia sedangkan di Aceh, gelaran Teungku yang bunyinya serupa dengan Tengku dipakai oleh alim-ulamak yang memimpin masyarakat. Sekian.

They and their family members used the title Teuku in front of their names. Its function is almost the same as the title Tengku in Malaysia while in Aceh, the title Teungku which sounded the same as Tengku is used by religious persons who lead the community. That's all.

Dalam kawasan Masjid Raya Langsa terdapat juga sebuah menara yang amat bermakna buat saya...

Inside the compound of the main mosque of Langsa there also exist a tower which is very meaningful for me...

Menara ini menempatkan kolam wuduk lama...
The tower is the place for the old abolution pool...



Terdapat juga panggung untuk mengadakan acara seperti bacaan Al-Quran di ruang terbuka...
There is also a theatre for holding functions such as recital of the Al-Quran out in the open...

Di bahagian tengah menara terdapat sebuah ruang untuk orang berehat. Di sinilah saya pernah tidur 3 malam di Langsa lebih 5 tahun lalu.

At the centre section of the tower there exist a space for people to rest. It was here that I actually slept for 3 nights in Langsa more than 5 years ago.

Masjid Raya (Main mosque of) Langsa

Masjid di Aceh yang ingin dipaparkan seterusnya adalah Masjid Raya Langsa.
The mosque in Aceh to be featured next is the main mosque of Langsa.

Masjid ini agak istimewa bagi saya kerana inilah tempat saya berlindung ketika pertama kali sampai di Aceh Januari 2004.

This mosque is rather special for me as this is the place I took shelter at when I first arrived in Aceh January 2004.

Semasa itu Aceh masih dalam keadaan darurat akibat perang antara puak pemisah GAM (Gerakan Aceh Merdeka) dan TNI (Tentera Nasional Indonesia).

At the time Aceh was still in a state of emergency because of war between the separatist group GAM (Aceh Freedom Movement) and TNI (Indonesian National Army).

Orang dari luar Indonesia tidak dibenarkan masuk ke Aceh. Malah orang Indonesia yang bukan dari Aceh pun belum tentu dapat masuk ke sana.

People from outside Indonesia is not allowed to enter Aceh. In fact there was no guarantee Indonesians who are not from Aceh would be allowed to enter there.

Kawalan ketat tentera terdapat di mana-mana tetapi dengan izin Allah, saya dapat masuk ke sini. Mari kita lihat dalam masjid!

Tight control by the army is evident everywhere but by the permission of Allah, I managed to get in here. Let's have a look inside the mosque!
