Makam (Tomb of) Merah Pupok

Assalamualaikum semua. Sementara bulan Ramadhan masih tinggal sehari dua ini biar dipersembahkan artikel terakhir di sini untuk perjalanan ke Aceh penghujung Januari 2010.
Peace be upon you all. While the month of Ramadhan still has a day or two to go let the last article here on the trip to Aceh end of January 2010 be presented.

Pada hari terakhir berada di Aceh saya sempat menziarahi makam Merah (juga dieja Meurah) Pupok, anakanda kepada Sultan Iskandar Muda (memerintah Aceh 1607-1636).

On the last day in Aceh I had the time to visit the tomb of Merah (also spelt as Meurah) Pupok, son to Sultan Iskandar Muda (ruled Aceh 1607-1636).

Mengikut ceritanya, baginda adalah putera mahkota yang bakal menggantikan ayahandanya di atas takhta Aceh. Tetapi baginda dikatakan berzina dengan isteri orang lalu dijatuhkan hukuman rejam sampai mati oleh ayahandanya sendiri.

According to the stories, his majesty was the crown prince slated to replace his father on the throne of Aceh. But he was said to have committed adultery with someone's wife and thus was sentenced to death through stoning by his own father.

Turut terdapat berdekatan adalah dua lagi makam dengan batu nesan Aceh. Makam-makam ini dikelilingi kubur-kubur askar Belanda yang mati ketika menyerang Aceh tahun 1870an Masihi. Biar saya mengambil kesempatan ini untuk mengucapkan Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri kepada semua pembaca yang beragama Islam. :]

Also available nearby are two more tombs using Aceh tombstones. These tombs are surrounded by the graves of Dutch soldiers who died while attacking Aceh in the year 1870an AD.
