The main mosque around here is located inside this building.

It belongs to a major master scholar named Sheikh Abdullah Kanaan.

He is believed to have come from the Arab lands to the kingdom of Perlak in the island of Sumatera 800 years ago.

Sheikh Abdullah Kanaan then accompanied a prince named Johan Syah to go and spread Islam to the kingdom of Lamuri which is centred about 40 km to the east of Banda Aceh.

The kingdom of Lamuri was succesfully converted to Islam and not long after Johan Syah was installed as the new king.

Johan Syah then went to Banda Aceh and opened up a new kingdom at Kandang Aceh. There exists a number of tombs of his descendants who became rulers and their families. Look at Makam Raja-raja Kampung Pande (Tombs of the kings of Kampung Pande).

Sheikh Abdullah Kanaan in turn had a big role teaching the religion of Islam in more detail to all they've met. In fact it is believed he was the teacher to Johan Syah.
