Continuing from Wat Rakhang Kositaram, Bangkok.
Sekitar 2 km ke selatan kuil terdapat masjid ini.
Around 2 km to the south of the temple there lies this mosque.
Namanya Masjid Ton Son. Ia didirikan pada pada zaman Raja Narai memerintah kerajaan Ayuthia 1656 hingga 1688.
Its name is Masjid (Mosque of) Ton Son. It was built during the period of King Narai who ruled the Ayuthia kingdom 1656 to 1688.
Ini menjadikannya masjid terawal di Bangkok. Sekurang-kurangnya masjid terawal masih wujud.
This made it the earliest mosque in Bangkok. At the least the earliest mosque in existence.
Namun ia bermula sebagai bangunan kayu. Ketika itu kota Bangkok pun belum wujud.. Ia sekadar satu penempatan di timur Sungai Chao Phraya.
Still it began as a wooden building. At that time the city of Bangkok has not existed yet. It was just a settlement at the east of the Chao Phraya river.
Ia diubah kepada bangunan batu ketika Raja Rama II memerintah 1809 hingga 1824
It was changed to brick building when King Rama II ruled 1809 to 1824.
Ketika itu kerajaan Ayuthia telah pun runtuh tahun 1767 akibat serangan Burma
At that time the kingdom of Ayuthia has already collapsed in the year 1767 after being attacked by Burma.
Seorang panglima kanan Ayuthia bernama Thaksin membentuk kerajaan baru yang berpusat di Thonburi, barat Sungai Chao Phraya, satu kawasan yang meliputi masjid ini.
A right-hand general of Ayuthia named Thaksin formed a new government based in Thonburi, west of Chao Phraya river, an area covering this mosque.
Beliau kemudian dipaksa turun takhta oleh seorang rakannya.
He was then forced to abdicate the throne by a friend of his.
Rakan itu naik memerintah sebagai Raja Rama I (1782–1809).
That friend then ascended the throne as King Rama I (1782–1809).
Beliau membina kota Bangkok di timur Sungai Chao Phraya tahun 1782 lalu mengisytiharkannya sebagai ibukota kerajaan baru.
He built the city of Bangkok in the east of the Chao Phraya river in the year 1782 and proclaimed as the capital of the new kingdom.
Raja Rama I founded the Chakri Dynasty which ruled to this day. This led to existence of the kingdom of Thailand as it is known currently. The city of Bangkok in turned grew until it covered the west of Chao Phraya river including this mosque.
