Ia dibina oleh Sultan Muhammad Al-Fatih bermula sekitar tahun 1459-1460 untuk menjadi kediaman utama dan pusat pemerintahan Sultan Uthmaniyah kemudian dibesarkan oleh sultan-sultan lain.

It was built by Sultan Muhammad Al-Fatih starting around the years 1459-1460 to become the main residence and centre of rule of Ottoman Sultans before being expanded by other sultans.
