Masjid Sheikh Ismail di Ulu Bernam (The mosque of Sheikh Ismail in Ulu Bernam)

Teruskan...
Note: This pictorial story was supposed to have been written yesterday in Masjid India following the writing mood which came then. Too bad, I had problems loading the pictures and thus have to wait for today before I could continue. By the way, I'm currently at an Internet Cafe in Kajang. Go on...

Look at this... An old mosque with a rather unique architecture in Ulu Bernam, Selangor...

Inilah dia Masjid Sheikh Ismail...

This is the mosque of Sheikh Ismail... (Ignore the spelling mistake on the sign-board calling it Masjid Syiekh Ismail)

Sila klik Masjid (mosque of) Ampang Pecah untuk ceritanya...

This signboard in Jawi writing says, the mosque which is named after an olden religious teacher was opened on 15 Safar 1345 Hijriah (the Islamic lunar calender) equivalent to 24 Ogos 1926. So it was built in the same year as that of Masjid Ampang Pecah in Kuala Kubu Baru, a mosque which story was written in this blogspot last night. Do click Masjid (mosque of) Ampang Pecah for the story...

Oh... Lupa pula...

Oh... Forgot.... The name of the religious teacher in question is mentioned in the signboard as Almarhum (the late) Sheikh Ismail Al-Khalidi An-Naqsyabandi. This means the religious teacher was a follower of the Khalidiah Naqsyabandiah tariqat (Sufi path) spread forth by a major Malay saint by the name of Sheikh Abdul Wahab in Kampung (village of) Babussalam, Tanjung Pura, in the province of Langkat in the island of Sumatera 19th century AD.

Inside the mosque there's a staircase to get to the dome area...

The staircase is situated next to one of the main entrance...

Why wait, we just went up... Oh, forgot to tell, these pictures were taken December last year in a visit with a friend Zaidi. That was our first visit to the mosque. I first learned about its existence when a member in an Internet forum found about my interest in old Malay architecture especially of old buildings with tounge-like carvings jutting out from corners of the roof and then posted a picture of the mosque in the forum. That's what prompted me to make a trip to Tanjung Malim one day... For information, the town of Tanjung Malim is situated in the state of Perak, just across the Bernam river which marks the inter-state boundary while this mosque is situated in Ulu Bernam, Selangor, the other side of the river...

Penjaga masjid sedang membuat sedikit kerja...

The mosque's caretaker doing some work. Actually, I made my third visit to the mosque last Saturday, in the final section of my latest trip of almost 4 weeks covering 5 states... But I'm more comfortable using pictures from the first visit taken by Zaidi to feature in the story.

The view from the front... Observe the architecture which is rather cute with tounge-like carvings jutting out from the corners of roof. Enough story-telling ya!:]

Masjid (mosque of) Ampang Pecah

Note: This article was actually started at around 3 pm in Damansara Heights up to the last paragraph of story for the first picture before my laptop computer ran out of battery. Then I had to spent some time with a sweet heart before I could continue the story at an Internet Cafe in Masjid India around 7 pm.

Assalamualaikum pembaca sekalian.
Peace be upon you dear readers. I'm currently somewhere in Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur using the free wi-fi signal there to upload some pictures into the Internet to be used for coming articles. This article is supposed to be published in this blogspot only after some other articles for my all-English blogspot BERPETUALANG KE ACEH have been completed, maybe tomorrow, maybe next week? Only God knows as this also depend on my mood and opportunity. So after uploading the pictures for this particular article, I'm supposed to hit the "Save as draft" click button and continue the story another day. Instead, I absent-mindedly hit the "Publish post" button. So I take it as a signal, might as well complete this story and publish it however brief. Here goes...

This is the old mosque of Ampang Pecah at the small town of Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor. The town is my last stop during a my latest travelling session which ended last Sunday, a session of almost 4 weeks covering certain locations in the states of Pahang, Kelantan, Kedah and Perak... Not forgetting Selangor too.

After spending a night there, a girlfriend whom I dearly love called asking for news and offered to take me from Kuala Kubu Baru. As it is the town is not so far from Kuala Lumpur and the girl lives in Rawang, some 30km away. So while there's a car, might as well stop at Masjid (the mosque of) Ampang Pecah which is some 3km away from the town of Kuala Kubu Baru.

The first time I visited Masjid Ampang Pecah was December last year with a friend Zaidi. So let me continue the rest of the story with pictures taken then ya... Starting with the picture above which contains the "Four Quls" the four Quranic Surahs ( a Surah is a set of verses) starting with the Arabic word "Qul" which means say, as in say that God is One...

For information, the Quran has a total of 114 short and long Surahs. The "Four Quls" happened to be last four Surahs and are among the favourite Surahs used to grace mosques.

Perhatikan papan tanda masjid... Nombor poskod 44000 seolah-olah membawa makna tertentu buat diri saya...

Look at the mosque's signboard... The postcode number 44000 seemed to carry a certain meaning for me...

Tabuh Masjid Ampang Pecah...

The tabuh at Masjid Ampang Pecah... Sorry, can't find the English translation off-hand... It's a kind of drum used to feature at mosques for denoting time of prayers and certain events. Nowadays it is considered obsolute due to the use of microphones and loud hailers....

Pintu utama masuk masjid...

The mosque's main entrance...

Kubah masjid tertera tarikh ia dibina iaitu tahun 1926.

The mosque's minaret with the year its was built inscribed that is in 1926. According to a story, this area was the location of the original small town of Kuala Kubu. Too bad, a dam nearby broke down and spoiled the original town. So a new small town was built at a location deemed safer 3 km from here. That's why this area is known as Ampang Pecah (Malay for "broken dam") while the current town is called Kuala Kubu Baru (the new Kuala Kubu)!

A bunting saying the Quran was revealed during the month of Ramadhan (the 9th month of the Islamic Hijriah calender when day-time fasting is compulsory for all Muslims) for all mankind to show and clear the way as to what is right and what is wrong!

The names of Allah (God) and Muhammad (the prophet) as can be found in most mosques. What is strange, it's hard to find the name Muhammad at mosques in Saudi Arabia. Why is it ya? :]
