As it is Laksamana Malahayati once lead a naval force of 2,000 widows which became known as Inong Balee. I was told that Inong is the word in Aceh languange for women, Balee means widow or widows.

They built a fortress here 400 years ago to fight againts attempts to colonialise Aceh by Western forces such as the Portugese and Dutch.

The position of this fortress is very strategic facing the Straits of Melaka...
There are holes for shooting out cannonballs...
