Perjalanan seterusnya membawa kami ke Masjid Agung Demak.
The trip next brought us to Masjid Agung (great mosque of) Demak.
Setelah 20 jam berjalan terus menerus menziarahi 5 makam Wali Songo dan beberapa tempat lain baru kami berehat di sini pagi Jumaat.
After 20 hours travelling continously visiting tombs of 5 of the Wali Songo (nine saints of Jawa) and a number of other places it was here only that we rest Friday morning.
Dibina pertengahan abad ke 15 Masihi, Masjid Agung Demak disebut sebagai antara masjid terawal di Pulau Jawa. Ia juga dikatakan masjid paling tua yang masih berdiri bangunan asalnya di seluruh Asia Tenggara.
Built in the middle of the 15th century, Masjid Agung Demak is said to be among the oldest mosque in the island of Jawa. It is also said to be the oldest mosque which still has its original building intact in the whole of South East Asia.
Cerita rasmi menyebut ia dibina oleh Raden Fatah, Sultan pertama kerajaan Demak.
The official story says it was built by Raden Fateh, the first Sultan of the kingdom of Demak.
Namun cerita popular menyebut masjid ini disiapkan dalam satu malam oleh para Wali Songo.
But popular story says this mosque was completed in one night by the Wali Songo (nine saints of Jawa).
Empat orang Wali Songo bertanggungjawab mendirikan 4 tiang utama...
Four of the Wali Songo were responsible for erecting its four main pillars...
