Makam diraja Terengganu di Masjid Abidin (Terengganu royal mausoleum at the Abidin mosque)

Mari!
One more cemetery area in Kuala Terengganu but only for royalty. Come!

Di tengah bandaraya Kuala Terengganu terdapat sebuah masjid putih yang agak terserlah iaitu Masjid Abidin...

In Kuala Terengganu city centre lies a rather prominent white mosque known as Masjid (mosque of) Abidin...

Di sisinya terletak sebuah kawasan pemakaman diraja Terengganu!

On its side lies a Terengganu royal burial area!

This is the tomb inside the main building shown just now. If memory serves me right, this is the tomb of Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah (ruled 1945-1979), grandfather to Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, the present Sultan of Terengganu who is also the Yang di Pertuan Agung (rotational king) of Malaysia now...

Di sekitarnya pula terdapat banyak makam-makam lama dengan batu-batu nesan besar setinggi 5 hingga 7 kaki!

Around it are many old tombs with tombstones which stood up to 5 to 7 foot tall!

Lihat Makam (tomb of) Sultan Zainal Abidin I, Terengganu... ). Adapun nama Masjid Abidin ini dibuat berdasarkan nama Sultan Zainal Abidin II... Lagipun ia dibina semasa baginda memerintah.
If not mistaken, inside this building which is connected to the mosque's main building, there exist the tomb of Sultan Zainal Abidin II (ruled 1793-1808), a grandchild of Sultan Zainal Abidin I (the one buried at Bukit Keledang. See Makam (tomb of) Sultan Zainal Abidin I, Terengganu... ) . As it is, the mosque's name Masjid Abidin is based on the name of Sultan Zainal Abidin II. After all it was built during his reign.

Also here is the tomb of Sultan Mansur Shah, father to Sultan Zainal Abidin II and a son of Sultan Zainal Abidin I. He is said to have ruled Terengganu (1733-1793)

Also attracting attention are old tombs here using wooden tombstone (or is wooden tomb-marker a better word here?) which stands almost as tall as an adult!

This the tomb of Tengku Ali, a member of the royalty...

Sekian... :]

Although here, he is noted as someone who once ruled Terengganu from the year 1942 till 1945, I am made to understand that the present Terengganu government or rather members of the current ruling family do not recognise Tengku Ali as a Sultan. Why is that ya? That's all! :]

Kawasan pemakaman (the tomb area of) Sheikh Ibrahim, Kuala Terengganu...

Sila...
Still in Kuala Terengganu, now we move on to another cemetery area a bit to the south of the city centre. Come...

Di sebuah jalan bernama Jalan Pusara, terletak sebuah kawasan perkuburan Islam yang agak besar, pada anggaran saya sekitar 5 kali saiz padang bola!

At a road called Jalan Pusara (which could be translated as the "cemetery road") lies a rather big Islamic cemetery area, I estimated the size at about 5 times a football field!

Inside are many tomb buildings with tombstones which stands out much signifying it all as belonging to people of much importance...

Baginda menaiki takhta Disember 1830 tetapi mangkat Januari 1831!

Among it is the tomb of Sultan Daud who ruled Terengganu for only a month! He ascended the throne in December 1830 but died January 1831!

Inilah makam baginda...

This is his tomb...

Besides is a closed building containing a mysterious tomb inside it...

The tomb belongs to Sheikh Ibrahim, a religious scholar said to have come from Egypt, then died here in the year 1873...

Kenapa saya katakan ia makam misteri?

Why did I say it is mysterious? Because according to locals, Sheikh Ibrahim was a person full of miracles. Then there are those who believe inside the building is an egg from a mythical bird of paradise, I've forgotten the name of the bird... Was it the garuda (the orc in Western legends) or the jentayu (I don't know the equivalent in the West)...

Lihat...

Look... There's a rather unique main gate before one enters the vicinity of the tomb of Sheikh Ibrahim...

Not far away, there exist the tomb of Sultan Ahmad who ruled Terengganu 1808-1830...

Inilah makamnya...

This is the tomb...

Slightly far away heading towards the sea, there exist the tomb of a prominent religious scholar known simply as Tok Sheikh Duyung...

Inilah makam beliau...

This is his tomb...

Another prominent religious scholar buried here is Sheikh Abdul Qadir of Bukit Bayas... Sorry if I don't follow the spelling featured here...

What is sure, in this cemetery area lies the tombs of many important personalities. Just look at this, another building which stands out...

Sekian! :]

Inside the confines of the building lies some more tombs. Now think, in this whole cemetry area which I see is equivalent to the size of 5 football fields, there exist so many tombs of important personalities including that of Sultans and prominent religious scholars. So why is the whole cemetery area is known as the tomb area or burial grounds of Sheikh Ibrahim? What is so special about him making this whole area be known by his name, not by any other name? That's all! :]

Makam (tomb of) Sultan Zainal Abidin I, Terengganu...

OK, mari kita ke Kuala Terengganu pula...
OK, let us now go to Kuala Terengganu...

Not far from the city centre there lies a small hill...

Namanya Bukit Keledang...

Its name is Bukit Keledang...

Tersedia sebuah tangga untuk menaikinya...

There is a staircase for climbing to the top...

On its top is the tomb of Sultan Zainal Abidin I, Terengganu's first Sultan from the current dynasty which is the dynasty from the descendants of the Bendahara (the main nobleman, equivalent to today's prime minister) of Johor... It's just that there is a mistake on this information plaque. He went up the throne in the year 1708 AD, not 1780 as shown here...

Terdapat juga beberapa buah makam lain lama, dipercayai milik para bangsawan...

There also exist some other old tombs, believed to be that of nobles...

Makam utama terletak di dalam bangunan ini...

The main tomb is situated inside this building...

Inilah dia makam Sultan Zainal Abidin I!

This is it, the tomb of Sultan Zainal Abidin I!

Ini terjadi sekitar 250 tahun sebelum Sultan Zainal Abidin I menjadi Raja Terengganu! Sekian...

Behind it is this old tomb. Some people believe it is the tomb of Megat Panji Alam, the son of the an olden ruler of Terengganu. He (or rather his majesty?) once fought the Melaka warrior Hang Tuah sometime in the 15th Century AD. This happened some 250 years before Sultan Zainal Abidin became the king of Terengganu! That's all...
