Makam (Tomb of) Aermata Ratoe Iboeh

From Bangkalan we moved 15 km north-east and arrived at a burial area called Makam (tomb of) Aermata.

Ia juga dipanggil Makam Ratoe Iboeh.
It is also called Makam (tomb of) Ratoe Iboeh.

Nanti saya sebut kenapa dipanggil atas nama-nama itu.
Later I will say why it is called by those names.

Kawasan ini memiliki beberapa lapisan.
This area has a number of layers.

In the inner section stand out stone carvings which are beautiful.

More we go inside we will find tombs of people of increasing importance.

Among it are tombs of kings who have ruled the island of Madura at least on the western side.

Di lapisan terakhir terletak makam paling penting.
At the last layer is located the most important tomb.

Ia adalah makam Syarifah Ambami yang berketurunan Sunan Giri, seorang Wali Songo.
It is the tomb of Syarifah Ambami who is descended from Sunan Giri, a Wali Songo (the nine major saints of Jawa).

Her majesty is also known by the people of Madura as Ratoe Iboe or Ratu Ibu (literarily the queen mother).

This is because her marriage to a king of Madura resulted in later kings. A certain event which caused her majesty to shed so much tears caused her tomb to also be called Makam (tomb of) Aermata (this being a sort of local reference to the words "Air mata" which means tears).
