Biar saya bercerita ringkas seringkasnya, ringkas menurut cara saya yang selalu juga memanjangkan serta memperincikan sesuatu perkara, Saya baru sahaja menyiapkan 4 artikel dalam blogspot berbahasa Inggeris BERPETUALANG KE ACEH dan sekarang saya perlu menyiapkan cerita ini untuk melengkapkan satu set postings yang dimulakan di Teluk Intan 2 hari lalu sebelum saya dapat menyeberang ke Selangor hari ini. Let me be very very brief, brief in my own way of course as I tend to be quite lengthy and detailed in explaining things. I've just completed 4 articles in a row in the all-English blogspot BERPETUALANG KE ACEH and now I have to do this one to complete a set of postings which started in Teluk Intan 2 days ago before I can cross-over to Selangor today. So there...

Ini boleh dianggap sebagai sambungan cerita untuk artikel-artikel bertajuk Bangunan-bangunan sekitar Kuala Kangsar (Buildings around Kuala Kangsar)... dan Bangunan-bangunan klasik Perak (Perak classic buildings)... . Kali ini cukuplah dinyatakan di mana gambar-gambar ini diambil ya... Cuma perhatikan ukiran seperti lidah tergantung pada setiap hujung bumbung rumah sebagai ciri-ciri serupa bagi setiap bangunan atau rumah yang dipaparkan...

Rumah Kapten Speedy bersebelahan Kota Ngah Ibrahim. Rakyat Britain ini pernah menjadi sekretari pembesar Melayu itu. Yang peliknya, sebaik sahaja Perjanjian Pangkor 1874 berkuat-kuasa, Kapten Speedy pula menjadi Penolong Residen British di Perak sementara para-pembesar Perak termasuk Ngah Ibrahim kehilangan kuasa. Apakah yang sebenarnya berlaku ya?

The residence of Captain Speedy next to the fort of Ngah Ibrahim. This British citizen was once the secretary to the noble. What is strange, the minute the Pangkor Treaty of 1874 was enforced, Captain Speedy was made the Assistant British Resident to Perak while the nobles of Perak inculding Ngah Ibrahim lost their power. What actually happened here ya?

Entah kenapa, sebaik sahaja terlihat rumah ini daripada dalam kawasan kota, saya terus rasa tertarik untuk menziarahinya... Terasa seperti ia ada menyimpan sejarah sebenar Perak yang telah digelapkan penjajah dan pihak-pihak berkepentingan!

An old Malay house which is quite hidden behind the fort of Ngah Ibrahim. Don't know why, the minute I saw this house from inside the fort's compound, came the urge to pay a visit... Feels like it holds the true history of Perak which have been hidden by the colonialists and those with their own motives!

Masjid Tengku Menteri Ngah Ibrahim, juga di Matang. Sebagai rekod, elok dinyatakan, saya bukanlah peminat Ngah Ibrahim. Walaupun ada pihak-pihak tertentu yang begitu bersemangat mahu menaikkannya sebagai satu simbol kejayaan tokoh korporat Melayu yang berjuang tanpa kepentingan diri sendiri demi orang Melayu, saya mesti mengaku bahawa saya ada pendapat yang lain tentang dirinya... Ada cerita-cerita daripada pihak keluarga saya (ya, kami ada kena-mengena) menyebut Ngah Ibrahim mencipta kekayaan daripada tanah yang sebenarnya milik orang lain.

The mosque of Tengku Menteri (the noble title of) Ngah Ibrahim, in Matang. For the record, I am no fan of Ngah Ibrahim. Although certain parties are very keen to promote him as the symbol of a succesful Malay corporate figure who selflessly fought for the Malays, I must admit I have other ideas about him... There's stories coming from my side of the family (by the way, we are related, so there) saying that Ngah Ibrahim made his riches from land belonging to someone else...

Pihak yang mengagung-agungkan Ngah Ibrahim mahu menyebut bagaimana kekayaannya ketika itu melebihi Sultan Perak. Lalu kekayaan ini kononnya digunakan untuk membela orang Melayu. Malah kekayaan ini juga yang digunakan untuk membayar 'hutang' Sultan Perak kepada British. Maka inilah satu contoh yang patut diikuti generasi sekarang. Pihak lain yang lebih terpinggir pula akan menyebut, sudahlah dia mengambil tanah milik orang lain, sejarah pun mahu diubah sehingga dia diagung-agungkan sedangkan hak orang lain diketepikan dan diperkecilkan... Apalagi mahu mengangkatnya sebagai seorang pejuang besar Melayu!

The parties who glorify Ngah Ibrahim wants to mention how his wealth exceed that of the then Sultan of Perak. And the so the wealth was claimed to be used to help the Malays. In fact, the wealth was also used to settle the Sultan of Perak's 'debt' to the British. So this is an example that should be followed by the current generation. Other parties which were set aside might say, not only this man took someone else's land, even history was changed to glorify him while others' right were set aside and belittled... What more to recognise him as a major Malay fighter!

Saya sendiri berpendapat, kerenah Ngah Ibrahim yang sibuk mengumpul kekayaan lah yang telah memberi ruang untuk British bertapak di Tanah Melayu. Cukuplah... Walaupun saya tidak senang dengan apa yang saya tahu, saya tetap meletakkan gambar-gambar bangunan yang dikaitkan dengan Ngah Ibrahim di dalam blogspot ini!

I myself is of the opinion, Ngah Ibrahim's antics in gathering wealth gave British the opportunity and excuses to make their mark in the Malay lands. Enough... Although I'm not happy with what I know, I still put pictures of the buildings related to Ngah Ibrahim in this blogspot!

Ini pula sebuah bangunan milik bangsa Cina di Taiping yang menggunakan bumbung bercirikan senibina Melayu lama. Untuk pengetahuan, Taiping adalah bandar 'moden' pertama dibina di Malaysia (ketika itu dikenali sebagai Tanah Melayu) iaitu dalam tahun 1880an... Moden mengikut takrif British lah di mana pemusatan kekayaan serta aktiviti perniagaan diberikan kepada bangsa lain sementara bandar-bandar Melayu dilenyapkan (lihat Petunjuk kewujudan bandar Melayu lama (Clue to the existence of an old Malay town... ). Lalu sejarah pun diubah supaya bangsa Melayu hilang arah tuju. Cukup!

This is a Chinese-owned building in Taiping with the roof using old Malay architectute. For information, Taiping is the first 'modern' town built in Malaysia (then known as Tanah Melayu, land of the Malays) that is in the 1880s... Modern according to British definition where the concentration of wealth and business activities where given to another race while Malay towns were wiped out (look in Petunjuk kewujudan bandar Melayu lama (Clue to the existence of an old Malay town... ). And so history was changed so that the Malay race lost their direction. Enough!

Masjid (mosque of) Sayong, Kuala Kangsar

Assalamualaikum dan selamat pagi... Sementara masih berada di Ipoh, biar saya berkongsi lagi sedikit gambar-gambar masjid di Perak, kali ini sebuah masjid di Sayong, dalam daerah Kuala Kangsar.

Good morning and peace be upon you... While I'm still in Ipoh, let's share a bit more pictures on the mosques in Perak, this time of one in Sayong, within the district of Kuala Kangsar.

Adapun kawasan Sayong yang terletak di tebing kanan Sungai Perak berhadapan dengan bandar diraja Kuala Kangsar yang terletak di tebing kiri sungai itu pernah menjadi ibunegeri Perak yang terakhir menurut perjanjian lama keSultanan Perak dengan seorang pembesar misteri bernama Tok Temong. Menurut perjanjian yang dikatakan berlaku hampir 500 tahun lalu antara raja pertama Perak, Sultan Muzaffar Shah dengan Tok Temong yang pernah memerintah kawasan hulu, anak cucu Sultan Muzaffar hendaklah memerintah kawasan tebing kanan Sungai Perak sementara anak cucu Tok Temong berkuasa di sebelah kira.

As it is, the area of Sayong which is situated on the right bank of Sungai (river of) Perak facing the royal town of Kuala Kangsar on the left was the last capital of Perak under the ancient treaty between the Perak Sultanate and a mysterious noble by the name of Tok Temong. According to the treaty made almost 500 years ago between the first ruler of Perak, Sultan Muzaffar Shah and Tok Temong which used to rule upriver, descendants of Sultan Muzaffar would rule the areas on the right bank of Sungai Perak while Tok Temong's descendants hold sway over the left.

Pembukaan bandar diraja Kuala Kangsar oleh Sultan Perak ke 28, Sultan Idris I dalam tahun 1880an mengubah keadaan. Ia adalah ibunegeri pertama Perak yang terletak di sebelah kiri Sungai Perak. Sultan sebelum itu, Sultan Yusuf memerintah di Sayong. Mungkin sebab itu saya tergerak untuk bercerita tentang masjid ini?

The opening of the royal town of Kuala Kangsar by the 28th Sultan of Perak, Sultan Idris I in the 1880s changed the situation. It became the first capital of Perak to be situated on the left of Sungai Perak. The previous Sultan, Sultan Yusuf ruled in Sayong. Maybe that is why I'm moved to talk about this mosque?

Apapun, makam Sultan Yusuf terletak di sebuah masjid lain di Sayong. Sebenarnya, kawasan Sayong ini terbahagi kepada beberapa tempat seperti Sayong Lembah, Sayong Tengah dan sebagainya... Tak ingat pula nama-nama yang lain dan saya sudah lupa masjid ini terletak di bahagian mana. Yang pasti ia boleh kelihatan daripada bandar diraja Kuala Kangsar terutama daripada Bukit Chandan...

Whatever, the tomb of Sultan Yusuf is situated at another mosque in Sayong. Actually, the area of Sayong is divided into some parts like Sayong Lembah, Sayong Tengah and such... Can't remember the names and I've forgotten this mosque is in which part of Sayong. What is sure, it could be seen from the royal town of Kuala Kangsar especially from Bukit Chandan...

Oh... Baru teringat. Makam Sultan Yusuf di masjid lain itu sebenarnya adalah makam yang dipindahkan daripada kedudukan asalnya yang dikatakan selalu terkena banjir. Mungkin makam itu asalnya terletak berdekatan masjid ini? Hmm...

Oh... Now I remember. Sultan Yusuf's tomb at the other mosque is actually the one moved from its original location which as said to often suffer flood. Maybe the original tomb is situated near this mosque? Hmm...

Bangunan masjid ini yang kelihatan ketika mendaki Bukit Chandan untuk menziarahi makam diraja suatu ketika dahululah yang menyebabkan saya tergerak untuk pergi ke sini. Sempat berehat sebentar untuk menghidu aroma masjid lama yang sudah tentu ada sejarahnya yang tersendiri...

The mosque's building which was seen while climbing up Bukit Chandan to visit the royal mausoleum once is the reason I was moved to go here. Had time to rest while taking a whiff of the aroma of the old mosque which must have it's own unique history...

Ketika berehat dan berbaring di satu sudut, saya ternampak pula akan cara untuk naik ke atas. Apa lagi, ke atas lah saya selepas itu!

While having a rest and lying down at a corner, I saw the way to go up. So what else... Up do I go next!

Sebuah rumah berdekatan masjid... Kelihatan Sungai Perak yang memisahkan dua bahagian negeri... Malah, ada cerita lama menyebut sebenarnya bahagian kiri Sungai Perak dahulunya terletak di bawah kekuasaan negara lain, kemungkinan besar berkaitan dengan Aceh... Hmm... Biar sahaja cerita ini disimpan ya. Akan ada pihak yang tidak senang dengan kebenaran. Sekian!

A house nearby the mosque... Also apparent is Sungai (river of) Perak which divides two parts of the county... In fact, there's old tales saying actually the left area of Sungai Perak used to be under the sovereignity of another county, most probably related to Aceh... Hmm... Let's just keep this story ya. There would parties who won't be happy with the truth. That's all!

Masjid (mosque of) Pulau Besar, Perak...

Assalamualaikum sekalian, saya kini berada Ipoh, Perak, berehat sebentar setelah meninggalkan bandar diraja Kuala Kangsar, Perak semalam. Tadi saya baru membuat penambahan cerita dalam blogspot berbahasa Inggeris, BERPETUALANG KE ACEH, cerita-cerita mengenai Pulau Besar di Melaka dengan tajuk-tajuk Pulau Besar 3: Time to move on..., Pulau Besar 2: Why so many long tombs? dan Pulau Besar 1: Enter the 'big' island!. Lalu teringat, di Perak juga ada sebuah tempat bernama Pulau Besar... Tergerak pula untuk membuat artikel baru di sini berdasarkan gambar-gambar yang diambil Disember lalu!

Peace be upon you all, I'm currently in Ipoh, Perak to rest after leaving the royal town of Kuala Kangsar last night. Just now, I've made some updates in the English blogspot BERPETUALANG KE ACEH, stories about Pulau Besar, Melaka under the headings Pulau Besar 3: Time to move on..., Pulau Besar 2: Why so many long tombs? and Pulau Besar 1: Enter the 'big' island!. Then I remembered, in Perak there's also a place called Pulau Besar... Came the urge to write a new article here based on the pictures taken last Disember!

Perhatikan kata-kata pada papan-tanda di atas... Masjid Pulau Besar. Terperanjat saya apabila melihatnya. Sudahlah namanya sama dengan nama Pulau Besar di Melaka, perasaan yang timbul apabila berada di sini juga hampir serupa. Bezanya, Pulau Besar yang lagi satu memang sebuah pulau sedangkan kawasan ini pula adalah sebuah daratan yang terletak sekitar 1-2km daripada tebing Sungai Perak.

Look at the words on the board above... Masjid Pulau Besar. I was surprised when I looked at it. Not only the name is the same as that of Pulau (island of) Besar in Melaka, the 'feel' which came to me here is also almost the same. The difference, the other Pulau Besar is an island while this area is on the mainland situated about 1-2km from the banks of the Perak river.

Saya mula dapat tahu tentang kewujudan Pulau Besar di Perak ini semasa mencari makam seorang kerabat diraja Perak bernama Raja Ahmad September lepas. Ia terletak di antara Teluk Intan dan Kampung Gajah. Gambar-gambar ini diambil dalam lawatan kedua saya ke sana Disember lepas, kali ini dengan seorang rakan bernama Zaidi. Rakan inilah yang mengambil gambar-gambar ini. Saya menurut sahaja kerana menganggap ini juga adalah gerak daripada Allah belaka untuk memberi petunjuk yang berguna kepada saya, juga kepada orang lain juga.

I first came to know about the existence of place called Pulau Besar in Perak while looking for the tomb of a Perak royalty known as Raja Ahmad last September. It is situated between Teluk Intan and Kampung Gajah. These pictures were taken during my second visit there, this time with a friend named Zaidi. This friend took the pictures. I just followed as I consider this a movement from Allah to give useful hints to me about life, also to others.

Lihat... Menarik bukan? Saya memang suka rekabentuk masjid-masjid lama seperti ini.

Look... Interesting isn't it? I always like the architecture of old mosque such as this.

Sebuah papan menyebut "Sembahyanglah sebelum anda disembahyangkan"... Maknanya, mulalah menunaikan rukun Islam lima yang wajib itu sebelum kita mati lalu disembahyangkan orang. Mati itu adalah sesuatu yang pasti. Maka janganlah kita mati dalam keadaan menjadi orang-orang yang rugi...

A signboard saying "Pray before you are being prayed for"... Meaning, do the obligatory prayers that is among the five pillars of Islam before you die and people have to pray for you. Dying is a sure thing. So don't die in the state of being of a loser...

Sekali lagi, menara Masjid Pulau Besar, Perak. Suka betul si Zaidi dengan menara ini.

Hmm... Kalau saya yang mengambil gambar, kemungkinan besar saya tidak mengendahkan poster di atas ini. Apalah yang nak dipedulikan sangat tentang sebuah poster yang menyebut "banyak berzakat banyak berkat". Tapi kalau difikirkan balik, mendalam dan penting maknanya perkataan-perkataan ini... Bukankah membayar zakat itu merupakan rukun keempat dalam rukun Islam?

Hmm... If I'm the one taking pictures, most probably I won't take notice of the above poster. Why should anyone care about a poster that says "give lots of alms gain lots of blessings". But when I think back, there is deep and important meaning in these words... Isn't giving the obligatory alms the fourth pillar of Islam?

Lagi peringatan-peringatan yang dirakamkan oleh saudara Zaidi, kali ini daripada papan tanda masjid dengan sepotong ayat Al-Quran yang membawa makna "Sesungguhnya telah menang orang yang beriman iaitu mereka yang kusyuk dalam sembahyang". Ternyata, walaupun rakan itu sekadar merakamkan gambar menurut gerak rasa yang belum tentu ada asasnya, ia tetap bermakna untuk menyampaikan sesuatu peringatan untuk diri saya, juga sesiapa yang mahu mengambil iktibar. Ingat, walaupun zahirnya, Zaidi yang bertindak mengambil gambar ini, hakikatnya Allah jua yang menggerakkannya... Dengan bersebab dalam kebijaksaanNya jua!

More reminders recorded by my dear friend Zaidi, this time from the framed board in the mosque with a piece of Quranic verse which carries the meaning "Surely have won those faithful people who pray with utmost concentration". It is apparent, although this friend just snapped the pictures out of whim and fancy which might not have any solid basis, it still is meaningful to pass a certain reminder for me, also to whoever who wants to learn. Remember, eventhough physically it was Zaidi who took the picture, in truth it is Allah who moves him to do so... For a reason within God's wisdom!

Ini pula ayat Quran yang membawa makna "Sesungguhnya sembahyang itu mencegah perbuatan yang keji dan yang mungkar". Takkan ini pun tak faham?

This is a Quranic verse with the meaning "Surely the prayers prevents behavious which are bad and sinful". Surely you can understand this!

Hmm... Gambar sebuah masjid besar Turki yang menghiasi sebuah kalendar lama pun turut diambil si Zaidi. Macam ada makna tersirat di sini lebih-lebih lagi kerana ada nombor 11 yang terserlah berwarna merah, nombor yang ada makna tersendiri buat diri ini...

Hmm... The picture of a big mosque in Turki gracing an old calendar was also snapped by Zaidi. As if there's a hidden meaning behind this especially the nombor 11 which stood out in red, a number which has a certain meaning for this self...

Ah... Apabila diteliti balik memang dalam maknanya... Sebuah masjid besar di Turki, sebuah kalendar dengan tarikh-tarikh tertentu... Ada disebut 12 Disember, ada tertera bulan Islam Zulhijjah... Teringat saya akan sebuah mimpi yang berlaku lebih 2 tahun lalu melibatkan seorang buah hati...
