Masjid negeri (State mosque of) Perlis, Arau

Seberang jalan dari istana Arau terdapat masjid negeri Perlis.
Across the road from the palace of Arau lies the state mosque of Perlis.


Seperti istana ia adalah bangunan utama di bandar kecil Arau.
Just like the palace it is also a main building in the small town of Arau.

Di sebelah rumah tersebut terdapat Istana Arau tempat Raja Perlis bersemayam.

Besides the said house there lies the palace of Arau where the king of Perlis resides.

Sebagai rakyat biasa saya cuma boleh melihat dari luar.

As a common citizen I could only see from outside.




Tapi dari rumah tadi saya dapat juga melihat lebih dekat.

But from the house just now I could at least have a closer look.

Menarik adalah bentuk seperti lidah tergantung dari hujung bumbung. Nampak tak berdekatan lampu?

Interesting is the tounge-like shape hanging from the corner of the roof. Can you see it near the lamp?

Sebenarnya Istana Arau juga boleh dilihat lebih dekat dari sisi berlawanan. Namun dari situ tidak kelihatan bentuk lidah tergantung.

Actually the palace of Arau could also be seen nearer from the opposite side. But from there the hanging tounge-like shape could not be seen.

Di sebelah tanah perkuburan Arau yang mengandungi makam diraja lama Perlis saya terlihat sebuah rumah kayu.

Beside the burial ground in Arau which contains the old royal mausoleum of Perlis I saw a wooden house.

Apa yang menarik perhatian adalah bentuk seperti lidah tergantung pada hujung bumbung.
What attracted attention was the shape like hanginf tounge at the corner of the roof.

Bentuk yang biasa dilihat pada rumah-rumah lama di Perak dan sebahagian kawasan lain ini pernah beberapa kali ditonjolkan di blogspot ini. Cuma saya tidak sangka ia ada di Arau dan atas sebab saya terlihat ia di sini, saya mendapat tahu istana Perlis juga memakai bentuk serupa. Lihat artikel selepas ini.

The shape which is commonly seen on old houses in Perak and parts of other areas have been featured many times in this blogspot. It's just I've never thought I would find it in Arau and it is because I saw it here, I then knew that the palace of Perlis also used a similar shape.

Sebelah kawasan pemakaman lama diraja Arau terdapat bangunan ini.
Besides the old royal mausoleum in Arau there lies this building.

Di hadapan ada tangga yang pernah digunakan untuk naik dari sungai yang dilindungi pagar.

In front there is a staircase which was once used to get up from the river which is now obscured by a wall.

Sekarang kita lihat lebih dekat.

Now let us have a closer look.

Saya melihat sekeliling. Kelihatan semua pintu terkunci.

I went to have a look around. Looks like all doors were locked.

Sampai di bahagian hadapan baru saya terjumpa lubang untuk melihat ke dalam.

Getting to the front part only did I found a hole of sorts to look inside.

Beduk di sebelah menunjukkan ia sebuah masjid. Kemudian baru saya tahu ia memang masjid diraja lama Arau.

The beduk, a traditional drum shows that it is or was a mosque. Then only did I know it is indeed the old royal mosque of Arau.


Lihat sedikit jauh dari luar. Baru kelihatan rupa sebuah masjid.

Look a bit further from outside. Then you could see the look of a mosque.

Di sebelah makam diraja tadi terdapat sebuah tanah perkuburan Islam dengan sejumlah makam yang terserlah.

Besides the royal mausoleum just now there lies a Muslim burial ground with a number of outstanding tombs.

Lihat lebih dekat maka nyatalah ia milik kerabat diraja Perlis.
Look at it closely at it is clear it belong to members of the Perlis royalty.

Anda juga boleh melihat bahawa ia telah berdiri lebih lama dari makam diraja moden yang ditunjukkan pada artikel sebelum ini.

You could also see that it has been in place much longer than the modern royal mausoleum which has been shown in the previous article.

Makam diraja (Royal mausoleum of) Perlis, Arau

OK. Dalam artikel-artikel terakhir yang dibuat di blogspot ini 9 hari lalu telah dipaparkan beberapa buah masjid yang terdapat di selatan Thailand. Selepas itu kami ke Perlis. Biar ditunjukkan tempat yang disinggahi di negeri terkecil di Malaysia ini.
OK. In the last few articles made in this blogspot 9 days ago have been featured a number of mosques at the southern parts of Thailand. After that we went to Perlis. Let the places visited in this smallest state of Malaysia be shown.

Ini adalah makam diraja Perlis di Arau, bandar diraja negeri ini.

This is the royal mausoleum of Perlis in Arau, the state's royal town.

Saiznya agak besar tetapi kelihatan agak kosong.
The size is rather big but looks rather empty.








Nampaknya ia cuma menempatkan sedikit makam.
Looks like it only have a few tombs.

Paling terserlah adalah makam Raja Syed Putra yang pernah menjadi Yang dipertuan Agong ketiga Malaysia.

Most outstanding is the tomb of Raja Syed Putra who once became the third Yang dipertuan Agong (rotational king) of Malaysia.

Di sebelah adalah makam Tengku Budriah, permaisuri baginda.
Besides is the tomb of Tengku Budriah, his majesty's queen.

Ada satu lagi makam tetapi saya tidak dapat membaca tulisannya. Nampaknya makam diraja ini didirikan hanya untuk kerabat diraja Perlis dari cabang Raja Syed Putra.

There is one more tomb but I could not read the writings. It looks like this royal mausoleum is reserved only for Perlis members of royalty from the branch of Raja Syed Putra.
