Masjid hadapan Taman Pahlawan (Mosque in front of Taman Makam Pahlawan, the warriors' tomb park), Banda Aceh

Mari!
This could be considered as continuing from a number of articles before this. Come!

My Saturday daytime activity could be said to end at this mosque...

I do not know what is the name of this mosque but I remember it was located exactly in front of the Taman Makam Pahlawan, practically the warriors' tomb park or complex, Banda Aceh.

Saya sampai di sini sejurus sebelum masuk waktu solat Maghrib...
I arrived here just before the time of Maghrib prayers (which coincides with the sunset)...

Thus I also did my prayers here...

If I remember correctly this is the last mosque I went to in Aceh. As far as I could remember, on Sunday the furthest I went to was just the area outside the hotel while on Monday morning going to noon it was time to return to Malaysia...

Sekian! :]

Thus this is the last place in Aceh which I could feature in this blogspot... unless I went there again sometime in the future. For information this is the 288th article here. That's all! :]

Masjid (Mosque of) Hidayatul Islam

I was at one part of the fringes of Banda Aceh when I saw this mosque...

It's name is Masjid (mosque of) Hidayatul Islam. Apart from that I couldn't read what is on the signage. I just know that it is positioned not far from the district of Ulu Kareng which is famous for its tasty coffee...

Walaupun ia nampak belum siap, mungkin kerana sedang diperbaiki saya mendapati rekabentuknya agak menarik...
Although it looked uncompleted, maybe because it was being renovated I found the architecture rather interesting...

Saya pun masuk ke dalam. Lagipun saya perlu menunaikan solat...
I then went inside. Besides I have to conduct my prayers...

Bahagian dalam kubah...
The inside section of the dome...

Mihrab...
The front-most section...

Makam (tomb of) Teuku Nyak Arif

On the way back from Teluk Lamreh @ Lamuri to Banda Aceh I was taken for a visit to another tomb...

This is the tomb of Teuku Nyak Arief who lived closer to the modern age...

Beliau yang hidup awal hingga pertengahan abad ke 20 pernah memegang pelbagai jawatan selain menjadi seorang panglima bertaraf raja tempatan!
The man who lived in the early till middle 20th century has held a number of positions including becoming a general with local king status!

Mari masuk ke dalam bangunan makam.
Let us go inside the tomb building.

One could see quite a number of tombs inside, maybe tombs of kith and kins...

Inilah makam Teuku Nyak Arif.
This is it the tomb of Teuku Nyak Arif.

Al-Fatihah untuk beliau...
Recital of the verse Al-Fatihah for him...

Benteng (fortress of) Iskandar Muda

Pada hujung Barat Teluk Lamuri pula terdapat Benteng Iskandar Muda...

At the Western end of the bay of Lamuri there exist in turn Benteng (fortress of) Iskandar Muda...

Diberi nama sempena pemerintah Aceh paling dikenali dan disanjungi iaitu Sultan Iskandar Muda Mahkota Alam (memerintah 1607-1636 Masihi), kelihatan panjangnya sekitar 200 meter, begitu juga lebarnya...
Named after Aceh's most well-knowned and respected ruler that is Sultan Iskandar Muda Mahkota Alam (ruled 1607-1636 AD), it looks like the length is about 200 metres, so is the width...

Just like Benteng Inong Balee which was built by the team of Laksamana Malahayati, I was made to understand that this fortress was also built around 400 years ago.

We have to walk rather far to find the way to get in. Seen here my wife and the driver having a rest from all the fatigue while taking refuge from the afternoon's hot sun...

OK. Mari kita masuk ke dalam...
OK. Let us go inside...

It looks like the area inside is wide enough to put a football field...

Seperti Benteng Inong Balee juga Benteng Indrapatra, Benteng Iskandar Muda juga menghadap ke laut...
Like Benteng Inong Balee and Benteng Indrapatra, Benteng Iskandar Muda also faces towards the sea...

Bangunan perigi...
The well building...

A corner faces towards the estuary of Kreung (river in Aceh language) Raya...

Benteng (fortress of) Inong Balee, satu peninggalan (a legacy of) Laksamana Malahayati

. Selamat datang ke Benteng Inong Balee, satu peninggalan utama dari Laksamana Keumala Hayati @ Malahayati...
You could say this is a continuation of the article Masjid (mosque of) Malahayati. You could also say this is continuation of the article Makam (tomb of) Laksamana (royal admiral) Keumala Hayati! . Welcome to Benteng (fortress of) Inong Balee, a main legacy left behind by Laksamana Keumala Hayati @ Malahayati...

As it is Laksamana Malahayati once lead a naval force of 2,000 widows which became known as Inong Balee. I was told that Inong is the word in Aceh languange for women, Balee means widow or widows.

They built a fortress here 400 years ago to fight againts attempts to colonialise Aceh by Western forces such as the Portugese and Dutch.

Kedudukan benteng ini sangat strategik menghadap Selat Melaka...
The position of this fortress is very strategic facing the Straits of Melaka...

Terdapat lubang-lubang untuk menembakkan meriam...
There are holes for shooting out cannonballs...

Kalau tak salah anggaran, benteng in panjangnya hampir 200 meter...
If I don't estimate wrong, this fortress is almost 200 metres long...

Ketinggian dari aras laut pula saya anggarkan sekitar 30 meter. Sekian...
Its height from sea level I estimate to be around 30 metres. That's all...

Masjid (mosque of) Malahayati

Anggap ini bersambung dari artikel Makam (tomb of) Laksamana (royal admiral) Keumala Hayati!
Consider this as continuing from the article Makam (tomb of) Laksamana (royal admiral) Keumala Hayati!

At the foot of the hill where Laksamana Keumala Hayati was laid to rest there exist a mosque which is named after the female admiral that is the mosque of Malahayati.

Masjidnya agak ringkas. Mungkin juga ia diberi nama sempena nama kawasan sekitar yang memiliki sebuah bandar pelabuhan dipanggil Pelabuhan Malahayati. Apapun ia masih berkait dengan nama sang laksamana wanita...
The mosque is rather simple. Maybe the name given was actually given after the surrounding area which has a harbour town known as Pelabuhan (harbour of) Malahayati. Whatever it is still related to the name of the female admiral...

Just like at a number of areas around the coastal areas of Aceh, here also exist a monument in remembrance of the tsunami which ravaged the country 26th December 2004.

On this monument is inscribed that the tsunami here reached a level of 2.5 metres...

Thank God, this is not high enough to submerge the whole mosque. For information, there were places ravaged by tsunami waves as high as 2-3 times this!

Mari masuk ke dalam...
Let us go inside...

Sekian...
Enough that this place could be used as per its function as a mosque. That's all...
