Kita mulakan dengan Masjid Raya Baiturrahman, masjid paling utama di seluruh Aceh.
We'll start with the main mosque of Baiturrahman, the most important mosque in the whole of Aceh.

Rasanya ramai sudah mendengar cerita bagaimana masjid ini terus kukuh berdiri ketika dilanda ombak ganas Tsunami yang menyerang Aceh 26 Disember 2004 lalu menghancurkan hampir seluruh bangunan-bangunan yang dilaluinya selain membunuh lebih 200,000 orang.

I believe many have heard the stories of how this mosque still stood strong against the vicious tidal wave that is the Tsunami which attacked Aceh on 26th December 2004 and destroyed almost all the buildings which it passed through while killing more than 200,000 persons.

Untuk makluman bangunan masjid yang kelihatan ini dibina oleh Belanda selepas bangunan sebelumnya dibakar oleh mereka, semasa awal Perang Aceh-Belanda yang bermula tahun 1873 dan berlangung lebih 3 dekad. Masjid ini telah banyak kali berubah wajah. Masjid asalnya dipercayai dibina sekitar 800 tahun lalu!

For information the mosque building seen here was built by the Dutch after the previous building was burned down by them, during the early parts of the Aceh-Dutch War which started in 1873 and continued for over 3 decades. This mosque has changed its facade several times. the original mosque is believed to have been built 800 years ago.

Look at the wood carvings on these windows. There are plenty of symmetrical shapes which is commonly used in the Middle East.

Lalu saya memilih untuk keluar balik lalu masuk ke ruang solat lelaki di hadapan melalui sisi kiri...

Thus I chose to go out and then enter the men's praying section at the front through the left-side entrance...
