Pada hari Jumaat semasa di Brunei saya pergi ke tempat bernama Lumut  lalu bersolat Jumaat di masjid ini.  Letaknya berdekatan Seria, sebuah kawasan yang banyak menghasilkan minyak

On Friday while in Brunei I went to Lumut and did the Jumaat prayers at this mosque. Its location is near Seria, an area which produces a lot of oil 

Ia adalah sebuah masjid yang dibina oleh orang persendirian sebelum diserahkan kepada jabatan agama untuk diselenggara.

It is a mosque built by a private individual before it was handed to the religious department for maintenance.

Saya tertarik dengan kombinasi kubah-kubah yang ada.
I was attracted to the combination of domes available.

Kubahnya ada banyak tetapi menara azan yang kelihatan cuma satu.

It has many domes but there's only one call to prayer tower in view.

Menurut ceritanya masjid ini dibina oleh seorang hartawan dari Seria yang kehilangan anak perempuannya ketika sedang belajar di United Kingdom, akibat satu penyakit kalau tak salah ingatan.

According to the stories this mosque was built by a wealthy man from Seria who lost his daughter who was then studying in the United Kingdom, because of a disease if memory serves me right.

Anak itu bernama Zainab dan masjid inipun diberi nama sempenanya.

The daughter's name was Zainab and this mosque was then named after her.

Di serambi belakang Masjid Maryam saya ternampak papan maklumat ini.

At the rear verandah of the Maryam mosque I saw this information board.

Ia menunjukkan masjid-masjid yang terdapat di Brunei dan kedudukannya.
It shows the mosques available in Brunei and its positions.

Sebagai sebuah negara Islam sudah tentu Brunei memiliki banyak masjid. Tetapi kami tidak dapat menziarahi kesemuanya. Jadi biarlah sedikit gambar ini menjadi pengganti ya.

As an Islamic country it is obvious Brunei possess many mosques. But we can't visit it all. So let these few pictures be the replacement ya.

Masjid (Mosque of) Maryam, Jerudong

Sebaik sahaja kembali ke Brunei dari Labuan masjid pertama yang disinggahi adalah Masjid Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam di Jerudong.

Immediately after returning to Brunei from Labuan the first mosque we stopped at was the Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryah mosque in Jerudong.

Difahamkan masjid ini diberi nama sempena seorang bekas isteri Sultan Brunei. Biar kita panggilnya Masjid Maryam sahaja.

It is understood that this mosque was given name in respect of an ex-wife of the Sultan of Brunei. Let us just call it the Maryam mosque.

Setakat dapat saya lihat ini adalah masjid ketiga tercantik di Brunei, selepas Masjid Omar Ali Saifuddin dan Masjid Hassanil Bolkiah. Lihat Masjid (Mosque of) Omar Ali Saifuddin, Brunei dan Masjid jamek (Main mosque of) Hassanil Bolkiah.

As far as I could see this is the third most beautiful mosque in Brunei, after the mosque of Masjid Omar Ali Saifuddin and mosque of Hassanil Bolkiah. Look at Masjid (Mosque of) Omar Ali Saifuddin, Brunei and Masjid jamek (Main mosque of) Hassanil Bolkiah.

Muzium (Museum of) Labuan

Sebelum meninggalkan Labuan kami singgah ke muzium utamanya di tengah bandar.
Before leaving Labuan we paid a visit to its main museum in the middle of town.


Kelihatan di perkarangan beberapa memorial yang menandakan beberapa peristiwa bersejarah.
Seen in its compound are a number of memorials signifying a number of historical events.

Kebanyakan memorial ini menyentuh peristiwa selepas kedatangan British tahun 1840an diikuti kedatangan Jepun 100 tahun kemudian.

Most of this memorials touch on events after the coming of the British in the year 1840s followed by the coming of the Japanese 100 years later.

Saya rasa cukuplah dipaparkan kaitan Labuan dengan Brunei.

I feel it should be enough to just potray the relationship between Labuan and Brunei.

Masjid jamek (Main mosque of) Labuan

Setelah lebih seminggu senyap kita kembali ke penceritaan tentang tempat-tempat yang disinggahi dalam perjalanan ke Brunei, ketika ini membawa kita lagi ke Labuan.
After more than a week of silence we return to the story-telling on places visited in the journey to Brunei, at this juncture bringing us again to Labuan.

Ini adalah masjid jamek Labuan.

This is the main mosque of Labuan.

Lihat menara azannya yang tajam meninggi.

Look at its call to prayers towers rising high and sharp.

Lihat pula kubahnya yang kelihatan seperti satu bahagian roket...

Look in turn at its dome which looks like part of a rocket...

Kombinasi rupa pelik ini mengingatkan pada watak robot boleh bertukar rupa dalam filem Hollywood "The Transformers".

This combination of odd-looking shapes reminds one of the shape-shifting robot charaters in the Hollywood film "The Transformers".

Makam (Tomb of) Syarif Kedah

Dari Perak kita ke Pulau Labuan sebagai kesinambungan cerita-cerita tentang tempat-tempat di Brunei. Mari.

From Perak we go to Pulau (island of) Labuan as a continuation of the stories of places in Brunei. Come.

Walaupun Labuan terletak di dalam Malaysia, satu masa dahulu ia adalah sebahagian dari Brunei. Di Kampung Rancha Rancha, Labuan terdapat tanah perkuburan Islam ini.

Although Labuan is situated in Malaysia, once upon a time it was part of Brunei. At Kampung (village of) Rancha Rancha, Labuan there lies this Muslim burial ground.

Pada satu sudut boleh kelihatan bangunan makam yang terserlah.
At one corner could be seen an outstanding tomb building.






Inilah makam orang yang dikenali sebagai Syarif Kedah.
This is it the tomb of the person known as Syarif Kedah.

Untuk makluman beliau ialah seorang ulamak berketurunan Ahlul Bait dari Kedah yang datang ke Labuan sekitar tahun 1896. Syarif Kedah dikatakan meninggal dunia sekitar tahun 1943 pada berumur 116 tahun.

For information he is a religious master descended from the Ahlul Bait (family of Prophet Muhammad SAW) who came to Kedah around the year 1896. Syarif Kedah is said to have passed away in the year 1943 at the age of 116.

Menurut adat-istiadat, seorang Sultan Perak yang baru ditabalkan hendaklah menziarahi semua makam Sultan terdahulu yang ada di sepanjang tebing Sungai Perak dari hulu ke hilir lalu menjejakkan kaki di Beting Beras Basah. Kemudian baginda akan berehat di pondok yang kalau tak salah saya dipanggil Panca Persada ini sebelum semuanya dikira selesai.

According to the customs and ceremonies, a newly coronated Sultan of Perak must visit all the tombs of previous Sultans along the banks of the Perak river from upriver to downriver and then steps his foot at Beting Basah. Then his majesty would take his rest at this hut which if memory serves me right is called Panca Persada before everything is considered settled.
