Tempat-tempat yang dilawati di (Places visited in) Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Perlis

Kita sambung lagi proses kompilasi links.
We continue again with the links compilation process.

At first I felt rather all wrong for me to feature the compilation of links for Kedah. After looking at the available collection it is clear, I have made only a total of 12 articles on places in that state, after adding the article Makam (Tomb of) Sultan Muzaffar Shah I Kedah which was made earlier just now then it becomes 13. There are a bit of feeling of shame because too little are available when the fact is I often go to Kedah too.

Actually I have an extra collection from the latest trip made in the month of Ramadhan. After checking the pictures taken it is clear that there 24 mosques which could be highlighted, 7 tombs and 9 other places. But according to habit I could only add after the series on this trip has been started in my main blogspot CATATAN SI MERAH SILU. Most probably the series would only be started next year.

I also have a collection of old pictures which have not been turned into stories here. But for the moment just accept what is available. At least I have added an article on the tomb of Sultan Muzaffar Shah I using new pictures. Because that is the reason I made the trip.

Oh, I put this as the compilation for Kedah, Pulau Pinang and Perlis because one, I haven't got enough articles to be splitted into 3 states. Second, Pulau Pinang and Perlis were indeed originally parts of Kedah. So let it be united for this ya...

Masjid (Mosques)

1. Masjid (mosque of) Zahir

2. Masjid Alwi (the Alwi mosque), Kangar, Perlis

3. Sebuah masjid lama di (and old mosque in) Langgar, Kedah...

Makam (Tomb of) Sultan Muzaffar Shah I Kedah

Assalamualaikum semua. Mari! :]
Peace be upon you all. I am moved tonight to write an article on the tomb of Sultan Muzaffar Shah I of Kedah using pictures taken from my latest visit middle of the month of Ramadhan (Muslim fasting month) three and a half months ago. Come! :]

At one part of the Merbok Valley at the foot of Mount Jerai could be see this building.

Di dalamnya ada sejumlah makam.

Inside it there are a number of tombs.

The information available here says this is where lies the tomb of the first Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Muzaffar Shah I. His majesty is said to have ruled 1136-1179 Masihi.

Tapi yang mana satukah makam baginda? Di sini ada 5 buah makam. Biar kita lihat satu persatu dari kanan.

But which one is his majesty's tomb? Here there are 5 tombs. Let us have a look one by one from right.

Makam 1. Rasanya bukan...

Tomb 2. I feel not...

Makam 2 pun macam tu.

Tomb 2 is also like that.

Makam 3. Ada kemungkinan.

Tomb 3. There is a possibility.

Makam 4 adalah yang paling terserlah. Sesuailah kalau ini makam Sultan Muzaffar Shah I.

Tomb 4 is the most outstanding one. It is fitting if this is the tomb of Sultan Muzaffar Shah I.

Makam 5.

Tomb 5. The shape of the tombstone and its position on the left of tomb 4 (left is seen from the position of a deceased body lying with head at the top) implies that this is the tomb of the wife of owner of tomb 4.

There is a party who said that the tomb with the biggest tombstones which stood out, the tomb I have marked as tomb 4 does indeed belong to Sultan Muzaffar Shah I. But according to them this Sultan Muzaffar I lived in the 700an AD, 400 years earlier than the date given officially and equate him with the legendary figure known as Merong Mahawangsa. Official history on the other hand says Merong Mahawangsa is the ancestor to Sultan Muzaffar Shah I who is said to have ruled 1136-1179 AD. So which one is right?

It's alright. Let us just leave the question hanging. Let it be added, according to the party who believe Sultan Muzaffar Shah I is Merong Mahawangsa, the tomb with the second most oustanding tombstones which is tomb 3 belongs to his son who was also known as Sultan Muzaffar Shah II.

Tempat-tempat yang dilawati di Kelantan (Places visited in Kelantan)

Tu dia. Nanti... :]
That's it. I have just made 3 new articles for this compilation but even then there are still too little that have been featured despite the fact that I often travel to Kelantan. It's alright. Wait for a new visit God willing I will try to add much more content. Wait... :]

Masjid (Mosques)

1. Masjid (mosque of) Muhammadi, Kota Bahru, Kelantan...

2. Masjid dan pondok (the mosque and hut of) Tok Kenali

3. Masjid (mosque) of Kampung Laut

4. Masjid Brunei di Danau Tok Uban (The Brunei Mosque at Danau Tok Uban)

Makam (Tombs)

1. Makam Raja-raja Jembal (Tombs of the kings of Jembal)

2. Makam (tomb of) Raja Abdullah, Kelantan...

3. Kawasan permakaman diraja (royal mausoleum of) Kelantan, Langgar, Kota Bahru

4. Makam (Tomb of) Tok Kenali

5. Makam (Tomb of) Tok Selehor)

Kota, istana dan lain-lain (Forts, palaces and others)

1. Danau Tok Uban...

2. Mendaki Bukit Panau (Climbing Bukit Panau)

Makam (Tomb of) Tok Selehor)

There is one more Kelantan religious scholar of saintly status which must be featured before I present the compilation of links on places in Kelantan.

Head towards Tumpat from Kota Bahru and you could find the road to a traditional madrasah (Islamic religious school) complex.

Selain sekolah pondok, ada sebuah masjid.

Besides a wooden traditional religious school, there's also a mosque.

Di hadapan masjid ada tanah perkuburan.

In front of the mosque there is a burial ground.

Ada satu pondok di tengah-tengah...
There's hut at the centre...

It is there that lies the tomb of the Kelantan major religious figure known as Tok Selehor.

Seperti Tok Kenali (lihat Makam (Tomb of) Tok Kenali) beliau juga mendirikan sekolah pondok dan mengajar. Malah mereka hidup sezaman dan berkawan baik...

Just like Tok Kenali (look at Makam (Tomb of) Tok Kenali) he also built a traditional religious school and taught. In fact they lived in the same age and were good friends...

Tok Selehor also received pupils from all over the Malay World. What is interesting is he built a special hut for meditating alone inside the burial ground!

Pondoknya masih terjaga walaupun tidak dipakai seperti dahulu.

The hut is still maintained although not utilised like before.

You can enter a space under the ground where you would be at the same level as the bodies buried around!

During the time of Tok Selehor, students who have been prepared were given certain (religious) recitals and then enter alone to lie down like a dead man. According to the stories they would experience the real condition being questioned by the angels Mungkar and Nankir (according to Islam the angels responsible for questioning the dead) and see the torture inside graves. Have the courage? :]

Makam Raja-raja Jembal (Tombs of the kings of Jembal)

OK.
OK before the current dynasty started to rule Kelantan 250 years ago it used to be under the rule of what is called the kings of Jembal. More than 2 years ago I was brought to an area outside Kota Bahru which is called Kedai Lalat and was pointed the way to the tombs of 3 kings of Jembal. Let the pictures be shared with story...
Oh.
Oh. Earlier that day I have visited the tomb of Raja Abdullah, husband to legendary figure Puteri Saadong, a famous female Kelantan ruler. For information both of them are Jembal royalty. The tomb of Raja Abdullah which is located at another place has been highlighted in the article Makam (tomb of) Raja Abdullah, Kelantan.... not long after the visit. Now let us look at the tombs at Kedai Lalat...

Luckily I have left some notes in the article Menyusuri jejak Raja-raja Jembal... in the blogspot CATATAN SI MERAH SILU, the place where these old pictures were taken from. Because it has been made into an article there, I have forgotten to highlight it earlier in this blogspot.

It's alright. Maybe now only the time has arrived for it to be highlighted. We enter a rural area at Kedai Lalat. The notes mentioned this as the tomb of Raja Loyor. For information he is father to Puteri Saadong.

The notes said the next tomb belongs to Raja Sakti. I don't know which Raja Sakti as according to the story there were two people wearing the same name and thus known as Raja Sakti I and Raja Sakti II. But there's a big possibility this is the tomb of the elder one...

Raja Sakti II adalah cucu Raja Sakti I. Raja Sakti I sering disebut sebagai pengasas dinasti Jembal kerana pernah melebarkan kekuasaannya sehingga meliputi seluruh Kelantan, Terengganu dan Patani serta negeri-negeri Melayu lain di selatan Thailand.

Raja Sakti II is the grandson of Raja Sakti I. Raja Sakti I is often said to be the founder of the Jembal dynasty because he managed to enlarge his power over the whole of Kelantan, Terengganu and Patani along with other Malay states at the south of Thailand.

Kelantan sebelum itu adalah negeri bawahan Patani. Tetapi pada zaman Raja Sakti I sekitar 350 tahun lalu Patani berjaya ditakluki lalu dimasukkan ke dalam satu konfederasi yang dipanggil Patani Besar, di bawah Raja Sakti I. Makam seterusnya terletak berdekatan sekolah ini.

Kelantan before that was a vassal of Patani. But during the time of Raja Sakti I around 350 years ago Patani was succesfully occupied and thus inserted into a federation called Patani Besar (greater Patani), under Raja Sakti I. The next tomb lies nearby this school.

According to my old notes this is the tomb of Raja Bahar.

Baginda disebut sebagai anak sulung Raja Sakti I.

He is said to be the eldest son of Raja Sakti I.

Oh.

Oh. What in turn is the relationship between Raja Loyor and Raja Sakti? A story mentioned Raja Loyor as also a son of Raja Sakti. But another story mentioned Raja Loyor as an elder member of the Jembal royalty...

Pembetulan: Setelah melihat bacaan lain baru saya tahu... 4 gambar terakhir bukan menunjukkan makam Raja Bahar tapi seorang kerabat diraja Jembal yang lain, dikenali sebagai Raja Udang.

Correction: After looking at other reads then only I know... the 4 last pictures do no show the tomb of Raja Bahar but that of another Jembal royalty, known as Raja Udang.

Makam (Tomb of) Tok Kenali

Untuk Kelantan pula saya masih belum membuat satu artikel tentang makam Tok Kenali, ulamak besarnya bertaraf wali yang sangat terkenal awal abad ke 20. Walaupun sudah banyak kali menziarahi makamnya setakat ini saya cuma membuat sebuah artikel berkenaan masjidnya bertajuk Masjid dan pondok (the mosque and hut of) Tok Kenali di blogspot ini, itupun sekadar memaparkan gambar-gambar tanpa menerangkan siapakah Tok Kenali. Jadi biar dimulakan artikel tentang makam ya...
For Kelantan in turn I haven't made an article about the tomb of Tok Kenali, its major religious master of saintly status who was very famous early 20th century. Although I have visited his tomb many times so far I have only made an article on his mosque titled Masjid dan pondok (the mosque and hut of) Tok Kenali at this blogspot, even then only showing pictures without explaining who is Tok Kenali. So let the article on tomb be started ya...

All in all the name of Tok Kenali is well-known by many as he was said to have magical powers such as able to attend 3 ceremonies at different places at the exact same time and able to cross rivers without getting wet but reached the banks earlier than someone on boat. His tomb is located less than 1 km from his mosque.

We set aside things which are not logical. Even without magical powers Tok Kenali was still well-known as a smart student who managed to catch lessons fast and on the mark. He had studied under many major scholars and then continued taking lessons in Mecca where he stayed long...

Pelajarannya menarik minat ramai sehingga Kelantan menjadi tumpuan penuntut agama seluruh Alam Melayu. Beliau pun dikenali sebagai Tok Kenali, sempena Kampung Kenali tempat beliau menetap.
Inscribed at the tomb the real name of Tok Kenali is Muhammad Yusof. His tomb is marked with round stones, besides the tomb of his wife. Muhammad Yusof returned from Mecca and started to teach around Kota Bahru. His lectures attracted the attention of many and Kelantan became the focus of students all over the Malay World. He then became known as Tok Kenali (literally the elder of Kenali), in conjuction with Kampung (village of) Kenali where he stayed at.

After making 4 new articles using old pictures only did I feel comfortable enough to present the compilation of links for articles on places in Terengganu.

Makam (Tomb of) Sayyid Yassin

Dipersembahkan artikel ke 474 di sini...
Presenting the 474th article here.

One more tomb which should have long been featured in this blogspot is situated on top of Bukit Puteri (literally hill of the princess) nearby the Kuala Terengganu city centre.

It is the tomb of Sayyid (also spelt Syed or Saiyid) Yassin, an important official of the Terengganu palace early 18th century AD.

Selain menjadi penguasa Bukit Puteri beliau adalah menantu Sultan pertama Terengganu, Sultan Zainal Abidin I (lihat Makam (tomb of) Sultan Zainal Abidin I, Terengganu...).

Apart from becoming governor of Bukit Puteri he is the son-in-law of the first Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Zainal Abidin I (see Makam (tomb of) Sultan Zainal Abidin I, Terengganu...).

Batu nesan makam Sayyid Hassan.

Tombstone at the tomb of Sayyid Hassan. According to the Sayyid and Sharifah (female version of Sayyid) family genealogy, he is the ancestor to all Al-Yahya (one of their branches) family in Malaysia.

Makam (Tomb of) Tokku Paloh

Referring to the article Masjid (Mosque of) Tokku Paloh made just now, as it turned out I also forgot to do an article on his tomb for this blogspot.

Luckily there are old pictures which could be used. His tomb is situated at a Muslim cemetery named after him just about 200 metres from the mosque.

The tomb of Tokku Paloh is situated inside a building on top a hill. In the mosque article has been mentioned his real name which is Saiyid Abdul Rahman.

Biar ditambah ulamak besar ini dikenali sebagai Tokku Paloh kerana dianggap orang tua bertaraf kerabat diraja lalu dipanggil Tokku yang menguasai kawasan sekitar iaitu Paloh.
Let it be added that this major religious figure was known as Tokku Paloh as he was considered an elder figure of royal status hence called the Tokku (elder royal) who had power over the surrounding area which is Paloh.

Lihat kawasan berkelambu dalam bangunan.

Look at the area covered by clothe inside the building.

Inside it lies the tomb of Tokku Paloh which is marked by round river stones. Recital of Al-Fatihah (the Quran's opening verses) for him...

Masjid (Mosque of) Tokku Paloh

Ah. Terpaksalah saya memakai sedikit gambar yang ada pada artikel New trip to the East Coast - Tomb and mosque of Tok Ku Paloh revisited di blogspot BERPETUALANG KE ACEH...
Ah. As it turns out there are still other places I've missed. I've been so often to this mosque in fact had slept inside a number of times that I thought I had long ago made an article on it in this blogspot. So I'm forced to used the few pictures available in the article New trip to the East Coast - Tomb and mosque of Tok Ku Paloh revisited in the blogspot BERPETUALANG KE ACEH...
,

This is the mosque of Tok Ku Paloh, named after a very prominent 19th Century religious man, said to be of saintly status., situated some 3 km outside the city of Kuala Terengganu.

His real name is Saiyid Abdul Rahman, Saiyid is a title showing him as of the lineage of Prophet Muhammad SAW. In Terengganu a Saiyid is also often called by royal title Engku. Thus the full official name of the mosque is Masjid (mosque of) Almarhum (the deceased) Engku Saiyid Abdul Rahman Tok Ku Paloh.
