Makam Teuku Langsa (Tombs of the Teuku of Langsa)

Disambung dari Menara hadapan Masjid Raya Langsa (The tower in front the main mosque of Langsa)...
Continued from Menara hadapan Masjid Raya Langsa (The tower in front the main mosque of Langsa)...

Besides another mosque in Langsa, a smaller mosque there exist a burial area which stands out...

Saya difahamkan ia milik ahli keluarga pemerintah tradisional Langsa...

I am made to understand it belongs to the family of the traditional rulers of Langsa...

Aceh in the old times used a system of administration where the districts inside in were ruled by leaders which ranked as local kings.

Sekian.
They and their family members used the title Teuku in front of their names. Its function is almost the same as the title Tengku in Malaysia while in Aceh, the title Teungku which sounded the same as Tengku is used by religious persons who lead the community. That's all.

Menara hadapan Masjid Raya Langsa (The tower in front the main mosque of Langsa)

Disambung daripada Masjid Raya (Main mosque of) Langsa
Continued from Masjid Raya (Main mosque of) Langsa

Inside the compound of the main mosque of Langsa there also exist a tower which is very meaningful for me...

Menara ini menempatkan kolam wuduk lama...
The tower is the place for the old abolution pool...

There is also a theatre for holding functions such as recital of the Al-Quran out in the open...

At the centre section of the tower there exist a space for people to rest. It was here that I actually slept for 3 nights in Langsa more than 5 years ago.

Masjid Raya (Main mosque of) Langsa

The mosque in Aceh to be featured next is the main mosque of Langsa.

This mosque is rather special for me as this is the place I took shelter at when I first arrived in Aceh January 2004.

At the time Aceh was still in a state of emergency because of war between the separatist group GAM (Aceh Freedom Movement) and TNI (Indonesian National Army).

People from outside Indonesia is not allowed to enter Aceh. In fact there was no guarantee Indonesians who are not from Aceh would be allowed to enter there.

Tight control by the army is evident everywhere but by the permission of Allah, I managed to get in here. Let's have a look inside the mosque!

Ruang utama solat.
Main praying hall.

The front-most section...

Pandangan dari bawah kubahnya yang luas...
The view from its spacious domes...

Look closer, there's a special Aceh shape or design...

Inilah bentuk yang dikenali sebagai pintu Aceh...
This is the shape known as "pintu Aceh" (door of Aceh)...

Let us go inside.

The wood carvings available here do really stand out.

Lihat binaan kayu yang membentuk masjid...
Look at the wood structures shaping the mosque...

Lihat sanggah yang membawa kepada kubah masjid...
Look at the support leading to the dome of the mosque...

This mosque is filled with beautiful carvings at almost every corner!

Lihat sekali lagi aturan bumbungnya. Sekian.
Look again at the arrangement of its roof. That's all.

Masjid (mosque of) Pekan Saree...

OK. Ini adalah artikel ke 272 di sini. Untuk tempat kali ini sila rujuk pada artikel The journey to Pekan Saree, a hillside small town of Aceh... di blogspot BERPETUALANG KE ACEH .
OK. This is the 272th article here. For the place in question this time please refer to the article The journey to Pekan Saree, a hillside small town of Aceh... in the blogspot BERPETUALANG KE ACEH .

Situated some 1,500 foot above sea level at the slopes of the mountain called Seulawah is this mosque of Pekan Saree.

Semasa saya sampai pertengahan Jun 2009, kelihatannya masjid ini seperti baru siap dibina atau diperbaiki.
Went I arived here in the middle of June 2009, it looks like this mosque has just been completed or renovated.

Apapun, rekabentuknya agak menarik...
Whatever, its design is rather interesting...

Mihrab...
The front-most section inside...

If I'm not mistaken, this is the only mosque at Pekan Saree, the small town situated at the mountain slopes on the main road from Banda Aceh to Medan.

Oh. Sebenarnya nama pekan ini cuma Saree sahaja. Tetapi orang selalunya menyebutnya sebagai Pekan Saree...
Oh. Actually the name of this small town is just Saree. But people always pronounced it as Pekan Saree (the small town of Saree)...

Masjid (mosque of) Rahmatullah, satu monumen tsunami Aceh (a tsunami monument of Aceh)

OK.
OK. Here is a rather special mosque, in relation to the tsunami which ravaged Aceh on 26th December 2004...

This is it the mosque of Rahmatullah in the coastal area of Lampuuk which is about 15 km west of Banda Aceh.

At the outside gates of the mosque there are information saying the mosque was rebuilt by a party from Turkey.

For information, the call to prayers mosque available were built after the tsunami. So what actually happened?

Mari kita lihat ke dalam...
Let us have a look inside...

Bahagian dalam kubah.
The inside section of the dome.

Bahagian bersolat perempuan...
The women's praying section...

Besides it one could see a section damaged by the tsunami attack!

As it is, this section is intentionally left this way as a reminder and lesson for what has happened in the morning of 26th December 2004...

On its lower section there are put a number of pictures so that comparisons could be made...

Inilah rupa Masjid Rahmatullah selepas tsunami menyerang. Seluruh kawasan sekelilingnya jadi padang jarak padang tekukur sedangkan ia masih mampu berdiri tegap...
This is how the mosque of Rahmatullah looked like right after the tsunami attack. The whole area around it was turned to be a lifeless ravaged field but yet it managed to stay on strong...

However this closer pictures shows that it also suffer damages of some measure. How can it not, when it is situated only 400 metres from the Indian Ocean and thus was hit hard by the waves!

Selamat malam!
Now, all the damaged sections have been repaired except these parts for reminder. Good night!
