Makam (tomb of) Laksamana (royal admiral) Keumala Hayati!

Lebih kurang 10 km dari Benteng Indrapatra (lihat artikel Benteng (Fortress of) Indrapatra... ) terdapat makam Laksamana Keumala Hayati atau Malahayati...
About 10 km from the fortress of Indrapatra (look at the article Benteng (Fortress of) Indrapatra... ) lies the tomb of Laksamana (royal admiral) Keumala Hayati or Malahayati...

Kedudukannya amat terserlah di atas bukit...

Its position is very prominent on top a hill...

All the while I was in Aceh and visiting plenty of places, I think this tomb is the one which has the most prominent position!

Apa yang membuat ia mendapat kedudukan terhormat seperti begini?

What made it deserves to get such a respected position as this?

The official history of Aceh in fact history of the world recognise Laksamana Keumala Hayati as a female leader who became prominent more than 400 years ago. This great grandchild of Sultan Salehuddin (ruled Aceh 1530-1539) once lead a naval force of 2,000 widows and beat a Dutch armada!

What is interesting is the position of the tomb of Laksamana Keumala Hayati which is put side by side in one box along with the tomb of her husband Laksamana Zainal Abidin. The white clothes used to 'unify' the tombs gave a feeling of romance!

What is more important is the feel which arises because of the position of the tombs. It is as if it verifies a guesswork through a private research made years ago which shows both Laksamana Keumala Hayati and Laksamana Zainal Abidin as having secret identities which are more of a royal couple in nature. Maybe that is why their tombs have such a prominent position as this?

Cukup!

What is sure, the position of the tombs give a beautiful view which is strategic for looking at the bay of Lamuri. For information this bay has an important position in the history of Aceh. That's all!

Some 20 km east of Banda Aceh there exist as place called Benteng (fortress of) Indrapatra...

Biar kita teroka benteng yang ini dahulu...
Let us explore this fortress first...

There are holes which looks like it were used to shoot out with cannons...

Nampaknya benteng ini kini dijadikan tempat bersantai...
It looks like this fortress is now used as a place to relax...

OK.
OK. Now let us go to the other fortress...

Jaraknya sekitar 200-300 meter dari benteng tadi...
Its distance is about 200-300 metres from the previous fortress...

Mari kita naik ke atas...
Let us go up...

Meanwhile I saw this part which looks like it has been cleaved by a sword!

Rupa-rupanya benteng yang ini lebih luas...
As it turned out this fortress is much wider...

Nampaknya ia juga pernah memiliki sebuah balai diraja!
It looks like it also used to have a royal stage!

There is a big possibility that this is the main fortress which became the command centre. Look at this building with a roof which looks like a cap...

Inside it there exist a well which shows this indeed is the place of where people converge in fortification...

Sebenarnya terdapat sebuah lagi kubu yang membentuk Benteng Indrapatra.
Actually there exist one more fortress which forms the Benteng of Indrapatra.

Tetapi ia nampak sudah rosak teruk...
But it looks like it has been badly damaged...

Pintu Khop, jalan masuk ke nikmat duniawi (entrance to worldly pleasures)

At one park area at the centre of Banda Aceh there lies a monument which is called the Pintu Khop.

Sekitar 400 tahun lalu, ia pernah menjadi pintu yang membataskan kawasan istana dengan taman permainan diraja!
Around 400 years ago, it was the gates which marked the boundaries between the palace compound and the royal leisure garden!

Pintu (the Malay world for door) Khop is a relic from a garden which is said to have been exquisitely built with the help of expert craftsmen brought in from varied parts of the world.

It is not just choice of plants cultivated and arranged in such a way to form a garden of extraordinary beauty. Even the river which flows through the garden was reshaped, furnished with whatever stones necessary to make it an image of paradise on earth.

It is also the place for the Sultan to play around romantically with his queen. Thus this garden is known as Taman (garden of ) Ghairah (passionate desires)!

Sekian! :]
The garden which is the private rest area for the royal family spread out rather far. Look at the bridge which could be seen in the background. Behind it one could see a royal playground known as the Gunongan. Look at the earlier article called Gunongan... . Bear in mind the Gunongan is situated at a location which is still halfway down the garden's lengths. That's all! :]

Makam (tomb of) Sultan Malikus Salih!

Continued from Masjid (Mosque of) Baitul Mannan, Idi...
Bersambung daripada Masjid (Mosque of) Baitul Mannan, Idi...

From Idi we moved on some 80 km to the north-west, almost 2 hours journey to Geudong where there exist the tomb which I most like to visit in Aceh, that is the tomb of Sultan Malikus Salih.

For information his majesty was the founder of the twin kingdoms of Samudera and Pasai which was once the main centre for propagating Islam to the whole of the Malay world. Sultan Malikus Salih is said to have passed away in the year 1297 AD, more than a century before the appearance of the Sultanate of Melaka as written in history books. According to the story, his majesty received the mandate to rule from the Sharif that is the king of Mekah. In fact the Sultan got the support of Rasulullah SAW through a dream and a will from the Prophet!

Di sebelah makam baginda terdapat makam Sultan Malikul Zahir, katanya anakanda baginda...
Besides his majesty's tomb lies the tomb of Sultan Malikul Zahir, said to be his majesty's son...

Sekian...
Here I would like to take the opportunity to put for prosperity a picture of me also wife and our host in Aceh, Kak Ann (in the middle). A few more pictures will be made into a story at the blogspot CATATAN SI MERAH SILU ya. That's all...

Masjid (Mosque of) Baitul Mannan, Idi...

From Perlak we move on some 20 km north to the town of Idi and stopped at this big mosque...

Our real intention was to visit someone who lives somewhere around this mosque...

Since it was already the time of Maghrib, we then entered inside to do our prayers...

Pandangan dalam kubah...
The view of the inside of the dome...

Selepas bersolat kami pun bertanyakan jemaah di manakah rumah orang yang ingin kami cari...
After praying we then asked the congregation where is the house of the person we were looking for...

As it turned out the person we're looking for is one of the imam (congregation prayer leader) of the mosque. But he wasn't on duty then...

Baru saya teringat nama masjid!
Whatever we managed to meet him at his house. Oh, luckily I took the picture above. Only now do I remember the name of the mosque!

Makam Teuku Langsa (Tombs of the Teuku of Langsa)

Disambung dari Menara hadapan Masjid Raya Langsa (The tower in front the main mosque of Langsa)...
Continued from Menara hadapan Masjid Raya Langsa (The tower in front the main mosque of Langsa)...

Besides another mosque in Langsa, a smaller mosque there exist a burial area which stands out...

Saya difahamkan ia milik ahli keluarga pemerintah tradisional Langsa...

I am made to understand it belongs to the family of the traditional rulers of Langsa...

Aceh in the old times used a system of administration where the districts inside in were ruled by leaders which ranked as local kings.

Sekian.
They and their family members used the title Teuku in front of their names. Its function is almost the same as the title Tengku in Malaysia while in Aceh, the title Teungku which sounded the same as Tengku is used by religious persons who lead the community. That's all.
