Perjalanan seterusnya membawa kami ke Kota Tinggi, Johor.The journey next brought us to Kota Tinggi, Johor.
Ada sebuah makam yang sudah lama mahu diziarahi tetapi baru kali ini ada kesempatan.There is a tomb which I have long wanted to visit but it was only this time I had the opportunity.
Maklumat yang ada menyebutnya sebagai makam Cik Siti merujuk pada seorang perempuan bernama Siti Aminah. Tetapi beliau juga dikenali sebagai Siti Jalang.
The information here mention it as the tomb of Cik Siti referring to a woman whose name was Siti Aminah. But she was also known as Siti Jalang (literarily Siti the slut!).
Menurut ceritanya Cik Siti adalah anak seorang pembesar yang kaya-raya. Beliau sangat jelita lalu digilai ramai laki-laki. Beliau pun dipinang orang. Tetapi suaminya mati sebaik sahaja mengahwininya.
According to the stories Cik Siti was the daughter of a very rich official. She was very gorgeous and thus was madly admired by many men. Her hand was then asked in marriage. But the husband died as soon as they were married.
Namun Cik Siti terus diminati dan dipinang lagi. Sampaikan 99 orang suami mati sebaik sahaja mengahwininya. Itu yang menyebabkan mereka yang iri hati memanggilnya Siti Jalang.
Still Cik Siti continued to be admired and her hand asked again in marriage. This goes on till 99 husbands died. That is why those who are jealous of her called her Siti Jalang (Siti the slut).
Saya tak pasti apakah yang menyebabkan 99 orang suami itu meninggal. Ada yang menyebut ini akibat Cik Siti disihir. Cuma suami ke 100 sahaja berjaya mengatasi masalah ini. Mereka pun dapat hidup damai berumahtangga.
I am not sure what is it that caused the 99 husbands to pass away. There are those who say this is because Cik Siti was casted by an evil spell. Only the 100th husband managed to overcome this problem. They they managed to have a peaceful married life.
